So classes start back tomorrow, and I needed one more to get 14 credits. Here at my school, you have to take two freaking PEAC credits to graduate. My friend and I wanted to take the class early, but it fills it almost immediately. I guess a couple of kids droped, because we were both able to get in at the last second. Its begineers bowling, but my friend is the best bowler in the state with roughly a 210 average :p He bowled his high game, a 260 last weekend. Its going to be fun hustling frat boys and taking there money :)

Update 2/10

We are now about 4 weeks into the class, and I have defnilty improved... we finally got to keep score, and I bowled a decent 160, with the crappy lane ball. My friend bowled a 235 and 225 :p We went last night during open play and we bowled his first 700 (he had a 754 seires acuatly). His last game was a 279! He has something like 6 strikes in a row, a 9 and a spare, then struck out :p SOOOO close to a 300. I plan on buying a real ball within the next week or so, and develop a hook shot. I think with some pratice and the right ball, I can be doing 200 games pretty easy. BOWLING CLASS PWNS.

I got a 127 once. But I've only bowled about 5 times in my life. Usally get under 100 :(

Don't even put your thumb in the ball, just your fingertips.

Cup the ball and hook that mutha up. You'll really impress the ladies.

Bowling was the best and most valuable class I took in college. It raised my average from a 100 to a 150 and my personal best from a 140 to a 190. I was SO close to the 200, but then someone pointed out that I could actually hit 200 (I thought I could only get a 195) and I blew my streak of 4 strikes in a row.

Where in the hell is there a state where the best bowler only averages 210, and his high game is only 260??

I've got 1000 bucks that says he isn't even in the top 10 in whatever state you're in, with that average.

That wouldn't even be in the top 10 in my Thursday night league.....and not that 210 avg sucks, it's just that 210 ain't what it used to be.

:p that was the plan, throw the first game, but its too much competitive to do so :p I guarenette hes better than the instructor, he pracatically owns the lanes. I told him to drop out of school and just go pro :p but of course he wants to finish college first. I go to UVM (university of vermont).

In his age range, I am sure hes right up there, either number 1 or 2. Of course 30 year old pros are going to be better... hes only 19, but at this pace, he can have alot of potenial.

I know little of bowling form, but I told my brother that this impressive bowler a few lanes down neglected to put his thumb in the ball to get the spin he did, and he thought I was insane. Is this true? The kid (probably 14 or so) was bowling 200 and above on 4 players on a single lane.

Ah, age range....so he's a youth bowler....that makes more sense.
Irregardless, 210 isn't good enough to go pro, sorry to break that news to you. He needs to be averaging 220+ or better in league to even think about going on tour. Get to 215 and shoot some regional PBA tourneys.....that'll show him where he really needs to be. Either that or shoot in a sport condition league. Much tougher shot, even tougher than the PBA most of the time.
A friend of mine, who has won multiple PBA regionals and led a national tour tourney before, is the #1 sport condition average in the COUNTRY.....with a 205 avg. This same guy can push 230 ave on normal league conditions.

If your friend is serious about getting better, and he's in good with the bowling center manager, get them to set up a sport shot for him on a regular basis.....it'll hurt his feelings at first, but it'll teach him how to aim for a mark, not an area, which is what you do on a league shot.

no, you're not insane. I've bowled without using my thumb before to give it a lot more spin.

Yes, there are bowlers here and there who don't use their thumb.....even a couple on tour. They are nowhere near as consistent as the other bowlers, but if they run across a shot that favors throwing the ball with lots of revs, they are dangerous. When they are not "on", they really suffer, though. Lots of splits.
You can tear it up on a league condition, though.

That is the crappiest way to bowl... everytime i see people doing that i can easily tell they are n00bs to the game.

I've got a friend who bowls over 200 doing this, and he doesn't bowl very often (once every two months maybe).

Used to bowl in a couple of leagues with a former boss. One league I averaged 172 (the lanes weren't as dry). The other one I averaged 192. Best game is a 280.

I never was good at bowling, but I did take a class 10 years ago and learned the basics, including a little on how to spin the ball. I went and bought a decent urethane fingertip ball (offset holes) shortly after, but have never been able to do well with it, in fact worse than when I bowled straight with a normal ball. Often, I either throw it immediately in the gutter, or hit the other gutter on down or maybe the last pin or two. Any tips? The ball is only a 14, but still feels heavy after a short while and feels heavy to where I dont feel like I can control it, or throw hard enough. I don't think I ever went often enough. How often do you have to bowl to build up the necessary muscles?

bubbadu, does Chris still run that class? I took it in 2002(I) and 2003(II). It was a lot of fun, but like you I was limited by the house balls.

210 wouldn't have been high in any state 25 years ago with plastic balls and long oil. Now 210 might get you 20th place in a good league.

And 210 with a high game of only 260? Get real.
