I couldn't find any good bowling message boards so you guys will have to do :p. I've noticed some smart bowling people here in the past though.

Got a hammer raw anger bowling ball and I liked it at first because it hooks so much. I figured I'd learn how to bowl with it, but it just hooks to much for my style of bowling. These are the only two results I get: Pic. The black line is bowling faster than my normal bowling speed, the red line is throwing it about as hard as I can. The red line looks like it's going to go right into the pocket but the ball will stop hooking near the end for some reason.

Anyways...I put the ball up on craigslist the other day and someone wants to buy it from me. I figure I'd use the money toward a new ball. Getting the ball plugged and re-drilled would probably be at least 50 bucks itself and who knows if i'd like it anymore then. I guess they can make any ball a lot different depending on how they drill it though. But, I'll probably sell it and get a different ball. Maybe I can find a pro shop guy who could actually help me find a good ball. The last guy didn't really care much if I liked it or not.

Sounds like the best option would be to try a whole different ball. But, if you think otherwise let me know why. Also maybe someone could recommend a ball for me based on how the hammer raw anger didn't fit my style.

I should get to sleep now.

funny enough, my pro shop guy suggested I get that ball as well at first. I did some research and that ball and the toxic raw hammer are rated very well. I am new to bowling, less than 3 months, and I was using a tornado, but now I want to get a real strike ball that hooks. I talked to him for like a while yesterday, and we came to a conclusion that the anger is probably too much ball for me to take advantage of right now, and would be a better ball after a year or two of experience. I ended getting a tropical storm instead yesterday, which he believes would be a better choice for strike ball due to my player level.

In any case, talk to your pro shop guy about what kind of bowler you are, and what a better choice would be. Maybe he can redrill your ball, and suit it to your needs better, or else maybe a different ball would be better altogether.

Good luck and let us know what you do. :)

i'm using a tornado myself..... it's a real bowling ball! i used to do the fake hook, by cupping the ball and forcing it to spin....that hurt my wrist, and the best i could do with that one was 170... i bought the tornado and within two weeks i broke 200 for the first time... a few days later, another 200, and a few days later, i posted my high score of 229...yay me! this is me after 6 months of bowling... haven't gone much recently though

are you rolling the ball, or spinning the ball?

The red line looks like it's going to go right into the pocket but the ball will stop hooking near the end for some reason.

Thats called Roll Out, its usually caused by the ball flipping too soon or over flipping. Does it always happen, or just sometimes?

Have you tried a down-and-in shot instead of a big hook? Start 1 dot right of center and throw straight down the lane over the 2nd arrow (from the right) and see if you can hit the pocket.
If the ball goes brooklyn, move your feet two boards to the left and move your mark one board to the left. Keep moving one board at a time until you hit the pocket.

If the ball doesn't roll out, but doesn't get to the pocket, move right (2 boards with your feet, one board with your mark).

If you don't hit your mark, don't adjust anything.

I've tried everything with the Hammer but I can't get it in the pocket. I could I bowled a straight ball but that would be stupid :p - I think I'm going to talk to a pro-shop guy and see what he says. Though I think the immediate answer to "my ball isn't working for me" is, "it's your fault".

I can bowl a 234 with my old bowling ball that I found in a used sports shop for $10. The ball is from the 1980s. But, I'm still not a great bowler, just gotta find the right ball :)
