Im currently in my last semester of college, and I'm about to drop out of a class.
This is b/c:

A) It's ALOT harder than I thought it was
B) I'm currently doing Pass/Fail, but honestly, I think that it's just a waste of my time if I'm working my arse off just to barely pass
C) Senioritis will kick in, and I wanna enjoy my last semester.

Only thing is I am thinking about going to law school...I'm not sure how much of an impact a W would have there, but still. Any opinions?

Thanks guys

How are you going to law school if you can't even make it past this class?

(lol @ the mcd's comment)
Well it's completely unrelated to my major. Are they really seen that bad?

nobody cares about W's because they use that for all kinds of reasons- personnal emergencies, etc... in general, if it doesn't apply to your GPA, it won't affect you much.

Yeap. Hell, if an empolyer or graduate school asks, just say you were sick. Who cares?

Nobody cares... every VT student withdraws from one or two classes before they graduate... the school allows it and people use it. who cares?

It'd be my 2nd. Oddly enough, 1 of my friends knows ppl that have about 5-6 w's, or even a little more, just outta tryin to keep their gpa up.

EDIT: the only thing I'm worried about is that it'll be a W in my last semester

I review a lot of graduate school apps (although not for law school). A 'W' is always a red flag. If you only have one and some explanation it is not a disaster. If you have multiples over an extended period of time it looks very bad. If you can stick with it and get a pass I would strongly recommend it. If you do get the 'W' I would advise you to have an "explanation" for it and realize that it MAY decrease your chances of getting into a competitive school.

i had a couple in junior college and still got into a respected 4-year when it came time to transfer. my personal essay explained them, though.

I disagree.

I had an incomplete in one class because of a tibia/fibula leg fracture, but made it up after the semester. My transcript showed the class twice, once with an Incomplete and once with a grade, and no one cared. Not sure about law school, but companies don't care.

that W stands out more because you are a senior (as opposed to a freshman).

i think if you can come up with a good reason as to why you had to drop the class so late into the semester, then it should be ok. is it really that hard even as a pass/fail course???

Not a smart move. If you can't pass this class, what makes you can graduate law school? t's only going to get harder, and you don't seem to be too concerned about your academic record.

Its not really a big deal, unless its an important class to your major or that law schools will care about. Like The Boss said, almost everyone around here will withdraw from at least one class... although VT only allows 6 withdraw credits for your undergrad tenure here, while many schools allow as many "W"s as you're willing to waste tuition money on. Just don't drop your whole schedule.

So if you withdrawl from this class... will you have to re-take it to graduate? That would just be dumb. Senioritis would be worse if you only had one class to take before you graduate over the summer or something.

Yup. Not only will you never be able to get a job (even at Mc D's), but you'll have to register with the government. They may force you into a labor camp afterwards. Everyone will shout at you "Hey, that's the dude who has a W! HAHA!" as they go by.

EDIT: So far no W's here...

Everyone is going to be elitist and put you down, but I really don't think that it matters very much.. people look at overall gpa, not some insignificant 'W'. There's a reason they allow students to withdraw from classes after all, but people on this forum will tell you it's because you're weak and will never make it in the real world, when in reality they're working some sh!tass tech support job making less than 20 bucks an hr :).

You'll be fine, don't worry about it. If the class isn't working out and you stick with it, it might pull down your other classes along with that one so just get rid of it.

yeah, or in my case, class overenrolled, prof told me I wasn't in it and he'd take me off the roster, and then he didn't.

had to go to the registar to get that changed from an F . . . they made it a W, shouldn't even be on there.
