ULTIMATUM
I was formulating what I wanted to say here and then I came across this post. It describes my feelings about Ultimatum perfectly:

"BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! It might be a great movie if you can focus on things in a split second and instantly focus on a zoom view that quickly changes to something else the next second. If you have migraines, can easily get motion sickness, or just want to throw up, check it out. The director must have glued a video camera to an attention deficits monkey and gave him the control to the focus and the zoom while it was on acid. I don't mean to be rude, but you never get a chance to focus on one scene before they zoom out to an aerial view then quickly zoom in to someone walking down the street. If that isn't bad enough when you are in the room with the character the camera constantly bobbles back and forth like the cameraman is drunk or standing on a rocky boat. The director has almost nothing but close up shots of everyone with a f-stop of 4. If you don't know what I mean, it's like the camera is just focused on a face and you can't see the items behind that character because the focus is so narrow. Then the camera shakes around so much that if you are sensitive to motion sickness you will feel awful in no time. You can't even concentrate on the plot. It's not just once in a while it's the whole film. When you are watching the police walk down steps the cameraman in right behind them taking the steps in opposite stepping. So the police are stepping up as the camera goes down then the camera goes up as they go down. It would have been better if they just threw the camera down the stairs. Do yourself a favor and either get your money back right away or wait until its on pay preview and don't watch it. The commercials of the show don't give you a good representation of the crappy director's job."

On top of that. The film doesn't do anything amazing other than that one fight scene with the black guy. People always bash the Matrix sequels for not containing anything revolutionary compared to the original, but this movie is way too similar to Supremacy. I saw Supremacy hours before I saw Ultimatum. I wasn't impressed by Supremacy, partially because of the camera work, and because it seemed anti-climactic. Ultimatum is the crummy finish to the first part, Supremacy, using the exact same formula. Ultimatum also focuses more on everyone else but Bourne since half the movie is spent with the investigators saying one-liners that we've all heard before. Give me this camera angle, give that camera angle, etc... Ultimatum is ultimately ruined... even if the story was any good, the camera work is much too distracting to care about. My eyes felt like they needed a rest after that movie.

HALLOWEEN
Which brings me to another movie: Halloween. God this movie pissed me off for the same crappy camera work. The camera is always too close to whatever it's filming. Focus isn't even a priority. Shaking is everywhere.... Where is the background? It just looks like a bunch of people are being filmed and many times I didn't get a feel for their surroundings. It was like I was watching the movie through a tiny box that kept shaking back and forth. This made my eyes tired half way through the movie. I couldn't look anymore - it was torture; same with Ultimatum. It's not like the camera is filming at 60fps Butthole. How about doing some real filming? This really ruined the movie. Myers was more mysterious in the original. And Jamie Lee Curtis' vocal chords were missed.

That is SO true!!! I swear that's exactly what I was thinking while watching Bourne Ultimatum man the footage was horrible, some people actually left during the movie (while muttering), and I was pretty close to do the same. I couldn't agree more with that post about Bourne Ultimatum, including the second part.

The very beginning of Ultimatum was hard for me... that scene was just incredibly shaky. But the rest of the movie was fine and I didn't have any problems...

Hate this new directing trend of shakey camera work. Why don't they just fire the overpaid professionals and hire some drunk guy with a handicam instead. Same fucking result.

a lot of people complain about the shakiness and say its unbearable. i watched supremacy in the theatres, on dvd, and on tnt and never once has the shakiness become a distraction for me. ive also seen ultimatum a couple of times and the camera work there has never taken me out of the picture either. sure i notice it a bit, but not to the extreme degree that people make it out to be. the way people describe it sounds like the cinematographer and camera operator are playing hacky sack with a handycam and thats what they decide to print. i dont know if its a superpower i possess to be able to handle it and enjoy the movies, but to each his own i suppose.

Everyone is different in how sensitive they are to the camera movements. Some won't even notice it and some feel like throwing up after a few minutes. Similar to you I do notice it but i'm not very sensitive to it so it doesn't really bother me. But get me on a rollercoaster and I feel like losing my lunch afterwards though.

Same here. I think some people do just have lower tolerances for motion than others. They should recognize who they are, and not assume that everyone else has the same problem.

same way people felt after the blair witch project. I knew alot of people who felt sick after watching it (and no it was not because they hated the movie). It was just the choppy motion of the camera.

It was new in 1993 when NYPD Blue started. 14 years later, it's just an annoying way to make more movie with less raw footage.

I don't get sick from the shakiness...but I don't have any idea what happened after a fight scene is over either! They may as well just cut to black and play random punching noises, then cut to bourne standing over his defeated enemies.

Ok, its not that bad but I kept feeling like I was cheated out of getting a good luck at cool action.

I didn't realize how sensitive people are to motion. I liked the movie.

I never noticed the shaky cam in the Bourne movies, and I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

I heard shaky cam was back for Ultimatum, that why I haven't seen it yet. It ruined the second movie for me. It was okay during the expository scenes of the movie, but completely ruined the action sequences. I just couldn't stand NOT being able to see WTF was going on. All the fights were ruined because I couldn't clearly tell who was beating on who and how.
