I've been doing research for three months, and I've decided to go with the following parts.
Here's what I've got so far:
ThermalTake Tai-Chi Case
CoolerMaster 650W PSU
2x Western Digital SE16 WD5000KS HDD's
Here's what I am considering buying:
Asus P5B Deluxe Mainboard
E6600 CPU
Crucial Technology Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804 2GB kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 (Altered thanks to Roguestar)
X1950XT Video Card (seemed like the best bang for my buck)
The price tag ends around $1000USD
Here's what I am interested in doing.
I would like it to be quiet. That's why I went with the 5000KS HDD's. They're supposed to be fast compared to the other HDD's of similar capacity (500GB) and they're supposed to be quiet. Apparently these drives are really good for eliminating the 7200 RPM skreech.
I would like to overclock a bit and tinker around with overclocking. The chassis is liquid cooled and I don't really think it would be a problem OCing this.
I am not interested in slapping two video cards into the case to run SLI or Xfire. Couldn't care less about it. By the time I'm ready to upgrade again there will be another card that does better than Xfire or SLI and I'll just buy that card.
So based on those criteria, how far off base am I? Any advice is helpful, but please throw in a quick comment about why you think along those lines.
