fact remains, the reason he was killed was because the guy was a violent POS. saying that the law caused him to kill is recockulous... what if i get arrested for jaywalking, then go crazy and try to kill the cop? was that the law's fault? doubt it.

It's illegal to shoplift...so that means that if the shop owner tries to stop you, you kill him and blame it on the law?

If laws like this are made...deal with it....not anyone elses fault that you have a weak minded reliance on cigarettes....

About 2:30 a.m. yesterday, Mr. Blake, 32, known in the neighborhood for a gentle manner that contrasted with his imposing frame, told two brothers, Jonathan and Ching Chan, that they could not smoke in the bar, the police said they were told by witnesses.

It is not clear how the brothers responded, but whatever was said caused Mr. Blake to try to eject Jonathan Chan, 29, from the bar, Guernica, at 25 Avenue B, taking hold of his neck, the police said.

Ching Chan, 31, tried to intervene, the police said, grabbing Mr. Blake's neck, and then another man and woman who were apparently friends of the brothers joined in, with the woman leaping onto the bouncer's back to break up the fight.

Amid the scuffle, one of the brothers stabbed Mr. Blake in the torso, and both ran out of the bar, the police said. People who work on that block of Avenue B said that another bouncer from the bar chased them down.

It does make a statement: smoking is such a stupid, addicting habit that people will kill others if not allowed to smoke. This ban is absolutely the right thing.

It is not the ban's fault that someone died. It is the stupid smoker's fault. I keep referring to him as stupid because:

1) He killed someone.
2) He smokes.

I think anyone who would kill, rather than obey the law, is the one who is "dumb as hell," and his lame-ass brother isn't much of a brain pool, either. Yipes. Not being from NYC or a smoker, I'm glad they have this law...but yeah, this incident is not cool. I wonder if people tried to help...my first reaction was: 2 Chinese guys, 1 big black bouncer. Most people probably didn't think he had a lot to be concerned about......really sucks for his family, sounds like he was a nice guy, even tho his brother had some stupid comments.

As a person with allergies to tobaco smoke, I applaud the law (even though I don't live anywhere near NYC). And the idiots who killed the guy over cigarettes should be put to death as well. America doesn't need any more randomly violent idiots like that...and I'm disgusted by the fact that, odds are, decent people will be paying for one or both of them to live in jail for a long, long time. :disgust:
