Bouncer is Bouncing Into Stores Now !!!!!!!

Josh

Lifer
For all you PS2 fans out there, Electronic Arts have released The Bouncer, and if you look hard, you may just see it in stores now. The company shipped the title yesterday (5th March), and are expecting it to be a hot seller.

Gee, all we need now is an extra $500 to buy a PS2 to play it on.

(Note: DCs are $99 and readily available.)

Too bad the DC is old and can't compete with the proccessing power or graphics of the PS2. 🙂

But that's beside the point. This game looks great.

I stand corrected. Instead of getting getting 2 complete DC setups (2 controllers w/ VMUs and jump packs), I can get a PS2 (w/one gamepad). w00t!

(This is not to say that PS2 suX0rz or that DC r0x0rZ, just that it's awful pricey.)

I hate to do this but I have to say it. The reason the price is high is because it came out WAY after the DC did. WAY after.

My REAL point is...X-Box is gonna OWN everyone, so if you need to get a pretty looking system, save the PS2 cash for the X-Box and pick up a bargain DC. They have tons of great games and it looks just fine. PS2 games will get better, BUT as more developers decide that PS2 is too hard to code for, they're gonna be moving to X-Box.

<< Electronic Arts have released The Bouncer >>

Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't that be Squaresoft?

And dudes, this flaming of the PS2 is seriously getting old. You guys are like anti-Apples, people completely bent on bad-mouthing anything PS2 related. We all know how much it costs. Why don't you take your sarcasm and go bad-mouth the GeForce3? That's 3 times as much as a 32MB GTS for crying out loud!!

I thought it was Squaresoft also. Could be that SquareEA thing that I've seen before though. As for bashing the PS2, this is about a game, not the console. And I agree, console bashing has grown old. Each console has it's strong points and its weak points.

defref It doesn't matter how hard it is to code for because if there are a lot of units out (PS2 has sold well and will continue to) development crews will continue to make games for it. Its as simple as that.

And of course although Xbox comes out this year it will probabaly be next before there are any really decent games - just as it is for any console it takes a while to get going and PS2 has Xbox by nearly a year.

Bouncer? What is this, a "beat the hell out of the jerk that grabbed the stripper's ass, & sell dope on the side" game?

Sounds good to me, anything with polygonal strippers has got to be good.

😀

Viper GTS

Skoorb: Sorry, but it HASN'T sold that well (sure it's easy to sell out when there's no supply) but sales have slumped in Japan and the massive rollout in America was bolluxed up. Only now (how many months after launch?), are they starting to get enough stock on shelves to allow peeps to get them at RETAIL PRICES.

When E3 happens and people start seeing what X-Box can do, they're gonna sit on their wallets and wait the extra 6 months for it to show. M$ has a half-BILLION dollar marketing campaign ready to go and they've been buying up developers (i.e. Bungie) to make games for it, so the launch will be very solid AND games will take advantage of the hardware. M$ and Nvidia have been working with the coders to extract the features for a year now, too. Since it's the same as programming a PC game, developers (like the Oddworld folks) are canning their PS2 titles for X-Box. Sure, EA will code for PS2, but they aren't the only ones. Also, games developed for X-Box will run on the PC and I'm sure we'll see them arrive on PC shortly after their X-Box debuts. Two platforms for one development bill. Not bad.

I don't think that PS2 is a dead machine by any means. (Heck, I thought DC was doing OK otherwise I wouldn't have bought one THREE FREAKIN' WEEKS before the killed it and slashed the ticket) But, Sony blew their chance to come on huge and will suffer for it. X-Box is the Next Big Thing and PS2 will just have to make way.

BTW: I doubt that I'm gonna get an X-Box. I don't care for consoles and only got a DC cuz you can't get Soul Calibur or DOA2 on the PC. Bah.

Bouncer did get bad reviews; in fact, we reviewed the Japanese version and it wasn't great. Know why? Because it didn't live up to the hype, the commercials and media hyped the game WAYYYY too much and people were expecting a re-defining, jaw-dropping game, which just didn't happen. However, it was pretty damn fun and if you are fan of team vs. computer (ie. Fighting Force) this game rocked some serious ass. Anyway, as far as EA and Square, EA distributes for Square I believe, so that takes care of that. As far as PS2s go, they are still pretty damn "un-gettable" but you should be able to pick one up eaiser than the holidays. Catch y'all later!

🙂

<< Too bad the DC is old and can't compete with the proccessing power or graphics of the PS2. >>

Processing power, yes. Graphically, no.

<< EA distributes for Square I believe, so that takes care of that. >>

NO, NO, NO!!! You believed wrong. Square developed and published this games as they do all of their games. Since when have they had someone else publish their games?

<< Graphically, no >>

Right now there are some games on DC that surpass the PS2 in graphics. DOA for example.

re: EA/Square partnership I heard the deal is this: EA publishes Squares games here in the U.S., and Square publishes EA games in Japan.

Since May 1998. Square Electronic Arts is the US division of the partnership - it was created to publish Square games in North America. Electronic Arts Square was the division created to publish Electronic Arts games in Japan.

While comparing the graphics from even extremes like PacMan to Zelda 64 is still subjective, I'm gonna have to say your incorrect there.

I had the DC version of DOA 2, a 21 inch Sony Trinitron, and a VGA adapter....

...the PS2 version still looks better.

Like I said, no matter how extreme, graphic preference is always subjective. But I have to wonder if you took those comments directly from a Dreamcast website, which I remember reading.

Oh ya...I've had the US version of Bouncer for about a week....

uhhh.....can you say, "What happened?"

:\

Onimusha...now that's a fun game though 🙂

I picked up the Bouncer a month or two ago from my importer and was pretty dissapointed with it. Its more of a interactive movie then a game really. You will spend more time watching the cutscenes then you will playing the game, I promise. While the cutscenes are beautiful, it doesn't justify paying 50 bucks for this thing. Rent it!
