Some of you might remember that I recently switched banks, well long story short... my old bank account has no money in it ($28) and I forgot to change the bill for my Bank of American Visa over. BOOM, a $25 fee from my bank plus a $25 from bank of america. What is interesting is that I actually show two bounced amounts for $25 at my bank. Yet, I only made on payment. I wonder why I had to two fees? I haven't bounced a check is over 7 years and that was another accident on my part. I gave a check to someone 3 days before my paycheck was deposited and they went the same day and put it in.

I really feel bad for people who can't pay their bills aren't just in a situation like mine. I find it kind of funny that banks and credit cards company charge the most $$ when you don't have it in the first place...

This sucks! :(

EDIT: Dammit, just called bank of america and they said the reason I got charged twice was that they try to get payment twice "as a convenience to you" WTF? Obviously if there wasn't enough in there on Monday, there probably won't be enough in there on Tuesday either. WTF??????

I know the feeling. Half the people at work bounced checks because their paychecks bounced. Then this week another pay check error occured, so as of right now some of us havent been paid in a month.

I would suggest having overdraft protection linked to your savings account or credit card.

That is typical bank behavior. They will resubmit a check looking for money, on the chance that a deposit was made, yet not posted to your account when the first bounce occured.
They definately have the best "racket" going.

That happened to me once - my workplace's bank made an error in their weekly automatic transfer of funds, and all our paychecks bounced. It was completely the bank's fault, and after that the company ended up switching banks.

The only good thing to come out of it was that the bank who made the error ended up paying my (and all the other employees') bounced-check fees.

Yea it totally sucks. Its not the best of jobs, but it pays the rent. Well, it should pay the rent if they checks come in on time. The bank waived the bounced check fee for the ones the employees wrote since the paychecks bounced. That was a hassle in itself though.

It's not a "racket." A lot of people and businesses play the "I-hope-my-last-deposit-clears-before-my-next-check-hits-my-account" game. Often, they win, once in awhile, they don't. But they often DO get a deposit into their account the next day. Would you rather your rent check bounced completely?

If you don't like it, quit writing bad checks. If you wonder why the fee is so high, consider that at my bank, we have at least four separate people involved in deciding/processing whether or not to pay your overdraft and/or charge you an overdraft fee, not to mention the accounting side of it all. That's a lot of time spent on one lousy bad check.

If you are grumpy, irritable, or just plain mean, there will be a $5 charge for putting up with you. However, for your convenience, if you bounce a check, we'll only charge you $25.
