Last week, during a discussion, it was mentioned that the high ceiling prevented a bounce flash. Here is a technique that you can try. This shows the Canon 580EX II flash mounted on the EOS 5d camera. The flash is angled up, and a white card (built in to the flash) has been extended. This allows a bounce effect regard less of a ceiling or no ceiling.

The light will not be as strong, but it will be softer for head shots, etc. Experiment for the right exposure.
