Bought used HP 712C printer w/out AC adapter, can I use IBM laptop AC adapter?

18V, 1.7A is listed on the printer. Is it okay if I use my AC adapter that came on my laptop that provides 16V, 4.5A? WOuld this be safe for use with the printer?

It will probably work.

The amperage obviously isn't the issue.. -2V is somewhat significant.

I bet it will work. I don't think it will damage anything if it doesen't, it's possible though.
 
Should work short term for sure, if it's plugged in for the next year I don't know. If you smell burning plastic you know it didn't 😀
