I bought Ralink 802.11n usb wireless adapter from ebay. When i plugged it in my pc it shows error
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful..
Then i plugged it in usb 2.0
Then the error changed to
This device cannot start (code 10)
The usb returned an invalid serial number string descriptor.
But when i plugged it in my laptop and disabled internal wireless card. It worked fine...
I tried everything drivers .. installed windows again.. everything.. still same problem..

Ralink was acquired by Mediatek 5 years ago and no longer exist as a company.

I just tried 2 of my unused Ralink USB WiFi adapter about 2 weeks ago and both keeps either BSOD my system or whenever I tried to download from internet, every file is corrupted. I've tried IE. Chomre & Firefox, same result.

If I'm buying new WiFi card/USB adapter, I'll avoid Ralink chipset by all means.

Bro but it worked fine in my laptop.. i diasabled its internal card and plugged it in. It worked fine

Every system is different. It could work in one and completely doesn't work in another.

Maybe your system USB port does not have enough power? Try to use a powered USB hub and see.

I guess it could be some sort of fundamental incompatibility with your desktop's motherboard, but for starters, does the desktop have the same operating system as the laptop? Also, did you manually install a driver for it on the desktop, or did you plan to let the OS look for and install it automatically? Superficially one wouldn't expect that to impact the sort of error you're getting, but you never know...

Too many people are under the impression that the vendors check their products against all the Computer related Hardware that exisst in the Word, what can be more standard than a simple UB Wireless Mouse? 🙄

Heck, I have USB Mouses that would not work with some computers.

Well, to be fair, it does seem a little weird that the desktop isn't recognizing it as any sort of valid USB device at all... I don't think I've ever experienced that sort of error myself, except with a faulty device (which then wouldn't work on the laptop, either)...

One (remote) possibility is that the desktop's basic USB device drivers could stand being updated? That's certainly easy enough to check, anyway...

Definitely start with updating drivers. If that doesn't work, look into BIOS/UEFI update for the motherboard.

If you are still having problems, consider a USB PCI or PCI-E card
