Bought two xbox 360 games from craigslist. Help me determine if they're authentic or not.

so I bought used Gears of War and NFS Carbon from this guy in craigslist. picked up the games, and first thing i noticed was that the outside covers didn't look as clear as it should. It's as if the covers were printed on a really good color copier. I opened up the games and everything looked good. The cds even has the xbox360 authentic mark in the middle. And the game manual looks like the original.

Both games run fine but I only got a chance to run them for a few minutes. The weird thing is the first time I inserted NFS, the system said that it needed to update something and it installed something from the cd and rebooted. Is this normal?

I don't really care if the game is legit or fake. but since I'm paying for it, it better be the real game. I called the guy and said that I might return it and he's ok with it.

Unless you have a firmware modded dvd drive... you cannot in any way, run "fake" 360 games.. - most of the games now do require you to dl a patch before you can start playing... so if the games works, its real.

Do you have Xbox Live? Sometimes if they have released small patches for the game my Xbox 360 will downlaod something off of the internet.

EDIT: Eh, he beat me to it. If you ever want to play co-op, my XBL Gamertag is Gagabiji.

Games could be from Play-asia.com. I bought GRAW from them for $40, the cover was as you described but the game was brand new.

Great site by the way, they sell other region encoded games (for cheaper) which sometimes work in NTSC.

that's what I thought also. i thought you had to install the modded firmware in order to run pirated games

You'll have to take apart the whole Xbox.. theres no way to do it off a disc.

LOL, if some kid called me and told me he wanted to return something he bought off me from craigslist I'd tell him I'm not a freaking Best Buy.

uhmm. that's like saying that if someone says that they selling you an xbox360 and they give you a gamecube instead, you can't ask for your money back? he states on his add that the game is real so I have all the right to ask him for my money back if it's not what he's giving me.

When I got NFS from gamefly a few weeks ago, I had to install an update also. Your fine, as everyone else has said :)
