I bought the package deal from circuit city, sub and amp for 180. It was cheap and the only reason i wanted the amp was when I turn up the volume, it gets somewhat distorted, I just wanted something to get rid of distortion. I have all 4 good speaker (polk). I subs are 2 12" sony xplods, and my question is
Is there going to be a way where I won't be noticed, I just wanted something that sounded clean, I listen to blues, acoustic rock, sometimes alternative rock...Nothing too powerful. I still have the box sitting in my living room
Car is 1998 mits eclipse

For filling out the bottom end in a small space like a car, you really don't need 2 12's. 2 12's are generally used to annoy other people on the road but if you aren't listening to hip hop all the time and your sub gain isn't cranked up (ie it's actually set for flat response) you won't be too annoying.

yea the last thing i want is to annoy people, heh i get quite annoyed with other people with their subs. i dont plan to use them at 50%
The only reason I got them was because of the sale, these ended up cheaper no matter how I looked at it.
Are they pretty easy to install?
Or should I get CC to install them for around 60 + the stuff i have to buy.

Sony Xplod = appalling rubbish. If you want a good sub, look for the same stuff used in home audio gear - Seas, Tymphany (Vifa/Peerless/Scan-Speak), TC Sounds, Hi-Vi, Aurasound, and Dayton all make much better subwoofers. Adequate bass for you could likely be had from a well-made ported 8" sub.

500W is a heck of a lot of bass - remember, 500 watts sounds half as loud as 5,000 watts. Of course, most amp manufacturers are liars.

Also, there's an issue of efficiency. A well-made pro audio 18" sub in a horn-loaded enclosure will cause instant hearing loss with 500 watts.

Uh, you turn down the gain on the amp. That's it. Have you ever heard of an in-car system where you couldn't control the volume?

I'm aware of gain adjustment. I'm merely stating that 500W is a lot of power.

That was a response to the OP, not you.

In his situation, he'd probably be using 50W or less.

In terms of how normal volume translates to outside volume, I doubt you'll be annoying to anyone who isn't standing directly outside the car. Those boompa-boompa kids are trying REALLY hard to make that much noise.

Ok so i just picked it up from cc
The sub is huge, I have no more trunk space : /
I still have to hook everything up, I bought the amp install kit with RCA wires for about 60...I just hope this wont be too powerful
Anyways, for you audio gurus, do i have to connect my rear speakers to the amp? Or should I just connect the Sub to the amp.

on the back of the amp, the speaker out follows, L + - R + -
Now in total 4 sections, where do I connect my sub which only has 1 + -
Do i attach A positive to the Left and A negatve to the Right on the amp?

There should be a labeling for "bridge" or "bridgeable" on the amp by the speaker terminals. I couldn't tell you if it was L+ and R- or L- and R+.

Check the manual for information on the bridge mode of your amplifier.

Is there a big difference if i dont run my rear speakers through the amp?
I just want a clean sound bass, nothing high either

I love revving next to those mobile boom boxes and drowning them out, especially when they wait to get up behind me or next to me before they crank the volume akin to a lizard doing push ups.

Are you using your stock head unit?.If so thats probably one of the problems .You could have a top of the line mcintosh amp and if the signal going in is dirty then so is the signal going out also get rid of the 2 12s and get a single 10 in small sealed sub like fi car audio fi ssd.

I would return it.

Odds are you aren't gonna be happy with the sound.
Why's that?

Lets just say the Sony subs aren't known for their tight, musical bass.
But I don't think it matters at the level he'll be using them at.

I have a pioneer 5900ib unit, I guess one of the higher end models from last year
So i laid the power down on the left side, under the panels
Lad the remote and rca cables on the right side
Now I have to find the tool removal thing, So i can actually pull out my head unit. Does the remote wire usually have a label? Look for a blue wire?
After that is all done, I'll connect the ground wire for the amp, hook that up along with the Rca and remote wires
Finally connect the positive cable to the battery and put the fuse in...bingo? Am I missing anything
o and of course hook up the subwoofer via audio cables. Would there be a big difference if I also hooked up my rear speakers? The Rca cables coming from the head unit should be the OUTPUT section, into the amps INPUT section...makes sense, lol
I think I just saved 80 dollars by doing a 3 hour install : )

And again, I only bought this because it was cheaper than a 10" sub setup... $180, is a steal imo for a amp and a sub, sonly xplod, meh i haven't heard they're that great but at least not the worse
