Bought some 96% lean ground beef

RU482

Lifer
There was hardly any marbling of fat in the entire pound. Nice bright red color. Cooked up kinda strange, barely any grease compared to 93% or 90% we usually get.

Anyone else seen this stuff?

They take all the flavor out and put it in real hamburger.

😉

Just do yourself a favor and don't cook with that stuff. It's like the worst part of the cow.

Take super lean pork and compare it to bacon.

All will become clear.

I always use the 4% fat beef.

Maybe not for making actual hamburgers....but its great for spaghetti meat sauce, chili, hamburger helper, etc....

All I know is I made the mistake of making a meatloaf with super-lean ground beef.

I'll never, ever, ever do that again.

96% lean? How can you eat that junk? That has to be so dry it's not worth eating.

I get the beef that's 23% fat (77% lean). It's wonderful, juicy, tastey and people keep telling me that I make the best burgers they've ever eaten.

It's okay in sauces, chili and other foods where something else is adding the moisture. It's crap for burgers and meatloaf though. I like 80% for burgers, that seems to be the sweetpot where it gets the maximum flavor without being too fatty.
