Besides the obvious option of returning it to buy.com, do I have any other workarounds here?

I would like to keep the SATA drive because A) i dont want to go through the hassle of returning it and B) i would like to use it when I upgrade to a newer mobo/cpu

Is there some sort of PCI sata adapter I can buy, and if so will it be recognized by the BIOS as a SATA channel for using the HDD as a boot drive?

Any help is most appreciated.

Install a SATA PCI Controller card.

NewEgg

However, methinks it coule be cheaper to upgrade the mobo.

Probably, but then I have to take apart the system, find a mobo that supports my P4-2.0 and has sata..

I think I will just return the drive and get a PATA :(

OK ive found soemone selling a 200gb PATA hard drive on the FS forums here on AT.

Its the Seagate st3200822a-rk

8mb, 7200rpm

I heard some rumblings about certain seagate models having issues. Can anyone tell me if this is one of those drives?

Drive at CC

Thanks mutliator... I just ordered it.. I couldnt find any less than $25 and it would have made the hot deal on teh HD not so hot anymore. This helps alot, coz it would have cost me $5 to ship the drive back to buy.com anyway.

Thanks again.

With the sata drive as the boot drive? No issues installing? How did you do that - cloning or fresh install?

I have sort of similar problem.
I bought this SATA II harddrive but the interface card that I bought is SATA I compliant.

Is there anyway to make them both work or do I need to buy a new card ?

Any help will be appreciated.
I will wait for today otherwise I will create a new thread for this.

The SATA II drive should be backward compliant - but it will run as SATA I. If you really want II, get a new card. Is it worth it? Probably not for most apps.
