Bought new board - Intel D975X

According to the Anandtech review of the "Bad Axe" D975X motherboard, the onboard audio has the highest CPU utilization of the bunch of boards tested, including a Gigabyte board, with onboard SB Live 24-Bit.

I am not a hardcore gamer, but I do occasionally load up a game and play every once in a while (but not Quake 4, Doom III, HL2).

Do I stick with the onboard Sigmatel STAC9221D or do I go ahead and use my add in board, the Sound Blaster Live 24-Bit pci based card??

I'll be running a Cedar Mill, 651 (3.4 GHz), so I'm sure onboard shouldn't burden the cpu too much for my tasks, or is there a real big significant difference between the onboard and my SB Live 24??

Just curious, what did the article say about cpu utilization? Did it give percentages? (Do you have the URL for the article still?)

Edit: Found it at http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2681&p=12.

It looks like you get about 10% more frames with the SB X-Fi, so only you can determine if that's worth the $100 - $200 the SB X-Fi costs. If sound is important to you, I'd say go for it; sound is less important to me, and I typically use the simplest sound option, so it isn't a big deal here. Other opinions will vary.

I re-read the article again this morning.
The only thing that seems to be missing is 3d hardware audio..
Since I'm a light gamer, I probably will not miss too much or notice any difference..
I may try my SB Live 24-bit.. if it installs easy, without any driver issues, or PCI/IRQ conflicts, I'll leave it in.
