Bought Neverwinter Nights 2 for $5 during the D2D sales

I didn't start having problems in the NWN2 OC until the fighting the twin ancient dragons and the end boss fight. Had to reload several times to defeat them. And I ran into information overload trying to control all my party members against the end boss.

I didn't really like the MotB OC myself, too much micro management with the spirit hunger.

Tried to play NWN1 like 2-3 times, never finished more than 50% of it. I'll try to finish this one tho and maybe I give MOTB and SOZ a try after that, until DA-O comes out to deliver. Actually I'm thinking to give BG2 another try with a solo mage vs. the Tactics mod.
Play MotB -- definitely worth it, though it has a bit of epic orc syndrome (ugh).

Then try some NWN1 mods. Seriously, don't even try to play the OC again.

I edited a few files to take care of that annoyance. Yes, it was cheating, but sometimes that was just annoying.

Agreed, NWN1's OC is not good by Bioware standards. The first chapter of SoU and last two chapters of HotU were good:thumbsup:

I've been making my rounds through this game (on act III), it crashes at least once everytime I play. Sometimes the frames are crap, but a restart fixes that.

I'm finally making some progress playing through the NWN2 OC (retail box I've owned for a few years) and enjoying it. I haven't had any crashes, bugs or glitches at all.

I'm not sure that the mouse/camera fix I posted is completely working anymore for the latest patches. Right mouse camera rotate works, but the screen doesn't auto-rotate behind the direction the characters walk (and I also tried the .ini edit posted). I'm using it, but I assume the latest patch has some official camera/control fixes that conflict or duplicate what that unofficial fix was doing. Anyway, it plays well enough and the mouse/camera isn't too distracting for me.

I guess I'm one of the few people that prefered the NWN2 OC to MotB. IMO MotB actually had too much story. Every 2 seconds the action gets interrupted by a cutscene, and the story just didn't appeal to me that much. I also didn't like the whole 'you must constantly get soul essence or you die' thing. The OC was heavy on combat and that's the way I like it. I played controlling every character in my party and frequently pausing (as opposed to controlling only your main and letting the Ai control the rest) and this made combat more interesting for me.

Well yeah, thats the way you play D&D by controlling all chars. The AI is silly many times at casting spells anyway. Also I never used Stoneskin on anybody else except mages, else the game gets even more easier.

Forced myself to finish NWN2 just because I bought and didnt want it to go to waste. Cant believe they did such a terrible job. Camera wasnt an issue but game play and the story was, and the ending...oh the ending is so terrible, I almost couldn't believe that was it.

I bought it when it was released. Got 3/4 of the way through twice and quit both times. Then a couple months a go I started new and played all the way through. Fun game. Thinking of picking up MotB

Is there anyway to get party members to NOT rush into every fight? I haven't figured that out yet.

It looks like I can right click on the ground and choose "Stand Your ground" which is what I want them to do...

I actually bought this game after reading this thread last week (always wanted to get it but never did), but because of the D2D sale I bought a couple more games and I ended up enjoy playing Titan Quest more 🙂

Oh, and that 'WoW-style camera control' linked above fired-up my virus protection program when downloaded. I didn't bother to check if it's a false positive though and just deleted it.

YIKES, thanks for letting us know. I apologize for posting it, if it turns out to be a problem. I suggest to anyone who has downloaded it and used it that you should stop using it and scan your system for malware. I have been using it recently myself and will do the same.

I've removed the link from my post, until there's a verdict. I'm surprised no one mentioned it in the 9 page thread on the BioWare forums.

My AntiVir and Malwarebytes don't pick up anything, but I ran it through some online scanners and it got a lot of positive hits.

Of the online scanners, NOD32 and Kapersky among others don't report a problem and those are highly rated and perhaps better at ignoring false positives.

The file needs to be run while the game is running and I assume it intercepts the mouse moves and sends a different signal to the game, so it might just be acting like malware.

If any experts want to take a look at the file to determine whether it's a false positive or not, I'll send the link so you can have a look.

EDIT: Well, a preliminary look at the supposedly detected malware definitions shows none of the signs of the malware description: no added or edited registry keys and no added or altered files on my system. I checked both the McAffee and Symentec detection definitions. Also, this file was from 2006 and the malware descriptions say they were first discovered in 2007 and 2008. That doesn't mean anything definitive, but if this was truly infected I would have expected it to be discovered and listed closer to the date of the original file.

I tried to get into it after buying it from D2D (I had it years ago)... the camera is just terrible. Event changing the settings as recommended online I can't get it working a way that is comfortable so I shelved it again. Too bad, I would have loved to play it.

Did you patch all the way to current (1.23)? The camera system was radically overhauled twice (1.10 and 1.20 I think).

The RTS/free camera does not scale with elevation. That means if you run up a hill, in a few seconds your camera will be staring 2 inches from the ground. You have to reset the camera every time.

Also, SoZ is a waste of money. It's basically a 3 hour campaign (if even). 99% of the game is creep grinding and playing a terrible "merchant trading" game..There's absolutely zero content. The "game" has no towns, you have a market square in one city, and a guild plaza. You can jog end to end in these areas in about 15 seconds, it's THAT small. Mysteries of Westgate is about 10 times bigger than SoZ, and even that is a relatively short 3rd party mod.

Not true, never had a problem with this.
