My dad paid because it was like $240 but just want to
know if anyone has experince with this that can give
me some good advice for my mom when using this???

Yes. My guess is your mom wouldn't know the difference between a $150 camera and a $250 camera. Best advice? Don't stick your fingers on the lens, especially when trying to take a picture!

well the camera was actually $185 at best buy but my dad bought a 512MB memory card.

you should wait and not give it to her til new years
let her unwrap it and then take it back, just to show her whats up

😀

Cannon image quality is excellent. Good move! She should be very happy with it. Just don't go for cheap rechargables. Some of the cheaper rechargables are only 1600 mAh while the ones in the link above are much better at 2500 mAh.

Good choice! Your mother will certainly be very appreciative - and that is always a plus!

BTW here's a tip for her: if you have a fair amount of light, like a living room with big windows in daytime plus the lights on, then you can leave the camera in AUTO mode but hit the FLASH button (lightning-bolt symbol) until the display shows the flash is disabled.

Then try a shot like that. If the camera can still manage reasonably-fast shutter speeds of, maybe 1/25th sec. or faster, then you get natural-looking non-flash photos, instead of that "lightning-struck" effect typical of a compact automatic camera with a flash. The downside is that there'd be more tendency to blur, both from hand movement and from movement of whomever you're photographing. But I like the natural appearance myself.

If she gets into it a lot, then a small tripod would be a nice Mothers' Day gift 🙂 Eliminates the hand-movement problem.
