thats a bummer :( I took two safety classes for it, so I definitely got a discount on insurance. that seems really steep though...

I used to have a cheap ass tao tao scooter, that thing was actually pretty well build.

Motorcycle insurance is a lot more expensive in canada. Just the way things are.

As for the US, well my 09 gsxr 600 full coverage costs me $330 a year.

I don't know why, they can only ride motorcycles like 2 weeks out of the year :D

I rode today, it was really nice albeit a bit cold at speed.

The insurance industry gets away with bloody murder. Been talk of regulating it for years to bring prices down to something more reasonable nothing ever happens. The annual insurance on my car is a third of it's blue book value (about $2200/yr) and that's with me being 25+ with a clean record. I'm not sure if it's any better in the rest of Canada but Ontario is particularly notorious.

I was quoted $1200/yr and I'm 27. Guess because they're afraid of new riders. Auto insurance is insanely expensive in Ontario. No real reason for it, just pure gouging because there's not much competition.

Oh, and that was for a Piaggio Fly 150 scooter for commuting.

good god that's insane

If you live in certain states Ryder motrocyle Insurance is the best I've found. I have 09g Suzuki Gsxr 600 - $310 a year for full coverage. I was 27 under this renewal (28 now).

Rider was charging me $940 a year for full coverage on my 09 ZX6R D: No tickets or accidents.

I've never quite understood why motorcycle insurance can cost that much. You're typically riding something that costs about as much as a Kia Rio, at most. With the exception of expensive cruisers/customs. And you're not exactly likely to do that much damage to anyone else, be it another vehicle, property, pedestrian, ect.

Blows my mind that a lot of people can get a 4000lb+ car/truck insured for a lot less. You could have sharpened spikes covering your bike and still be a less effective speeding instrument of death.

Motorcycle insurance doesn't cover your injury/medical/hospital. So I don't know why they were charging me $940 a year for my ZX6R.

I then asked for a 6 months policy since I live in Northeast, I only ride when it's not cold out (6 months out of the year). They said no, you have to pay for a full year.

because you're paying to replace the bike not the thing you hit.
Get liability only and it's < $100/year

This is true - my premium is $147/yr for my 2005 GSXR 1000, liability + uninsured. Since I end up storing the bike Nov > April, the net amount comes to around ~100ish.

No sense in paying full coverage on a bike with 60,000+ miles that I also do track days on.
