Just kidding! :p

I've been toying with the idea of a motorcycle for a while now. After reading reviews and opinions online, I'd settled on trying for a Ninja 500. I decided that it was time to actually go and sit on a bike, since I hadn't actually even done that yet. Last night I stopped in to a local small bike shop with the intention of doing just that - sitting. Well, they had very few bikes there, they dealt mostly with minibikes, but they did have one 2003 Ninja 250, with 1500 miles on it, for only $2,199. Bike is in almost perfect condition from what I could tell - everything is still very clean looking, the hoses are all in good condition, the electricals all work well, the brake pads and rotors looked fine, etc. The owner of the shop was helpful and not very pushy at all. He pushed a little bit, but nothing like the car salesmen I've dealt with.

I told him I'd think about it, and went home to do some more research. $2,199 is below KBB retail value for this bike, and indeed, even searching through the completed Ebay auctions for the 250, there were very few that went for less than $2,000. My mind was made up, went back there today at lunch and gave him a check for $2,199. He has to replace the battery then he'll deliver it to my place. I still have to get my license and insurance and all of that jazz, but I don't expect any problems there. I have a helmet and some riding gloves, but I need to get a jacket and boots before I do anything else. Anyone have any recommendations for a jacket? I'd like to get something synthetic with armor, instead of just straight up leather. Any good websites for equipment?

sounds like it was a hot deal. when i was shopping for bikes i looked for used gs500's for around 1500 bucks... 2200 was a little too rich for my blood for a first bike.

buy the good gear, take a msf course, and enjoy riding!

I just got a 1970 cb350 honda. I got insurance from progressive, it seems to be the cheapest there. It was about $250 for a year. I am under 25 years old and I assume you are too so that should be in the same ballpark yours will be in.

I got a jacket from wilson leather. Its a very nice jacket and is very comfortable. jacket

here are some pics of my bike. The last few pics are when I was done restoring it.

Yeah, I'd park that in my garage right next to my MG that doesn't work and my Lotus that's in the shop. ;)

Congratulations! Great price too. My friend sold his(exact same) for just over $5000CND and the guy that bought it thought he got a good deal.

Have fun with that thing, the gas and insurance will make you wonder what you were doing not having one for all this time. :)

Jeez, I nearly had a panic attack after reading the summary heh, though I'd have been more worried if you'd gone for the 10R, the 12R is actually easier to ride apparently, it's not as mental...

Good choice with the 250 btw :)

Why would you have a panic attack if he bought te 12R for a first bike? I bought my first bike in 1987 and it was a 1986 Ninja ZX1000R brand new.....drove it off the showroom with no license and no real motorcycle experience except for some light off road stuff years before. The problem with buying a small bike to learn on is that in a few months you want/need more....so instead of wasting money I bought the fastest thing I could and just drove it carefully fou a few thousand miles to learn.

Haha, same thing for me in California. I read that thing through, but there were bunches of questions that didn't have answers. Had to take it twice, after I had already passed the MSF course.

I want a Ninja 250 so bad...I wish I would've gotten a job this summer so I could buy one.. :( Next summer, hopefully :D

And Ronstang-You don't put a 3 year old kid in size 12 shoes so he won't 'grow out of them too soon', and it's the same way with a motorcycle.
