I Just bought a new Asus VivoBook S500CA-US71T (This is my first new Laptop in 4 years and my first Ultrabook)

When I get it
1. I am going to make sure it works properly.
2. make the restore discs
3. Reinstall Windows 8 and all of the drivers + updates

My main question so far is
What is the proper way to reinstall Windows 8 with a Cache SSD?

The restore discs will include any of the bloatware, so why bother with your step 3? Just to test the backup?

Agree with Dave - that doesn't seem to make much sense to me. The obsssive penchant to remove so-called bloatware before trying it has always baffled me. I prefer to run it and set it up as issued and then uninstall and remove those things I don't want. Some of your best OEM utilities are often part of that so-called bloatware.

I always make the backups just incase I ever sell the computer so I can return it back to the way it was shipped from factory.
I also delete the restore partition so I can have the full drive for all of my stuff

I am going to actually try the computer before I do reinstall Windows to see if I actually need a reinstall.

The last laptop I had (Acer/Gateway NV5807U) came loaded to the brim full of crapware. I don't know how Asus is so I thought I would ask first about how to do a clean install of Windows 8 with the cache SSD

My buddy got an Asus NV50 last year, and sure, most of the installed stuff is crap, but some of it you need for the trackpad and what not.

OK so I got the computer the other day (Saturday 08/17/2013) and I tested it out and not much crapware

I reinstalled Windows 8 anyway as I wanted the drive split into two partitions, one for the OS + programs the other for as a separate place for my documents and files

I made sure to install all of the Asus drivers and the other stuff it needed to get all of the onboard devices to work. I think the SSD is not working the way it should though as the computer was way faster before I formatted it:thumbsdown:

Obviously there was a step I missed but what I don't know
Can the forum give me any pointers on what I did wrong?
Thanks

The SSD cache is almost assuredly software based. Which means that you need to find and install the utility that they used. Also you could have done a resizing and created a second partition without wiping the C: drive.

OK I found the software on the drive (I copied the Asus eSupport folder before I wiped the C partition)

The SSD is a SanDisk U100 24GB and the software is ExpressCache The computer is back to normal again

But I now have another question?

How do I get the computer to boot from a Live Linux USB? I tried changing the boot order and disabling secure boot option but it just goes straight to Windows 8
