just got my new gtx680 from amazon. noticed the seal was already broken. i will be returning the item. however, just wanted to make sure.

i'm checking the numbers on the board and some do not match up and wanted to see if anyone can verify.

serial sticker on box and card matches
P/N: 02g-p4-2680-KR
Serial: 1210632.....

however, another smaller sticker shows:

GeForce GTX680 2G
02g-p4-2680-B1

I've found that kr designation is a 3 year warranty versus the b1 having 1 year.

also, there are 2 additional stickers (one with QC signatures I assume) and another with just numbers. They both have similar 14 digits, which I assume should match but don't. not sure if I'm grabbing at straws.

T12864V09650262 01
128E055T084756

i'm thinking someone may have swapped the cards for the longer warranty... can anyone verify this or have i been wearing my tinfoil hat for too long.

Seal broken= return item, regardless.

I have no idea on the numbers but I don't think your theory is that tinfoil. I've noticed return policies frequently abused wrt gpus. For example, the Frys in my area has a notorious problem with people binning cards and returning those that won't overclock well. I would accept no less than a brand new, sealed card. At 680 prices I wouldn't take it for granted.

I never even knew that EVGA sold cards with a 1 year warranty. It must have been a refurbished/recertified unit that someone purchased on Evga.com or Newegg and swapped it out with a brand new one. Not very smart and it leaves you in a bad position too. I would call amazon and make it clear that the item you received has been opened because sometimes it's a hard battle.

Newegg does the same thing, it's pretty infuriating. I think they should sell it as an open box, and they do sometimes, but some fall through the cracks apparently. I also agree to return it.

Did buy it you buy it from Amazon, or did you buy it through Amazon?

There is a big distinction. Besides, Amazon has a very, very understanding and reasonable returns department. Just contact them, assuming it was from Amazon. (sometimes I wonder if their returns are that painless for everyone, or because I have prime and spend around $5k a year with them I get special treatment)

This. Amazon is both a direct retailer *and* a marketplace. If your purchase says "ships and sold by Amazon.com" then Amazon sold it to you. If it says anything else, you are buying from a third party *through* amazon, and that could be anyone at all. Dont be fooled by "fulfilled by Amazon" either, that just means the third party paid Amazon a fee to store their goods in their warehouse and handle all of the shipping for them, it's still not Amazon selling directly.

That being said, Amazon has amazing customer service even when third party sellers are involved, especially if you're dealing with counterfeit goods. Don't just file the RMA through their website, call up customer service and tell them exactly whats going on and exactly what you found, and you'll definitely have an easier time getting this resolved.
