Wife bought me uncharted 2 GOTY edition as a used game from Gamestop. The girl at the counter went and grabbed a disc and put it into the container she says. Not thinking to check wife kept it as gift and tossed receipt. I went to play it today and put the disc in and son of a...it's uncharted 1 complete with uncharted 1 manual, uncharted 2 manual and the uncharted GOTY codes not scratched off.

What do you think my chances of getting this resolved without a receipt? Does this happen often?

i would just tell em the situation, i think it may work out fine. that is a pretty old game which i would think is pretty cheap by now. the same thing happened to me when i got my ps3. i went and bought all of the old ratchet and clank games and jak and daxter, but when i went to play ratchet and clank 2 they put the 3rd one in there on accident. granted i had the receipt, they didn't hesitate to fix it when i went in the store.

I blame the wife. Thanks, sounds like it should work out.

I have to tell you I actually bought a used game last year sometime, and the gamestop dude did not put the disk in keep case. :D

I went back later that day, and as soon as I walked in the door the guy saw me and smiled. The game and sleeve were still on the counter waiting for me.

just take it back and be polite.

I went home and opened a "NEW" game, because all games there are opened, and there was no game inside at all.

went in, and they gave it to me no hassle at all.

I'm sure if it would have been a hassle I would immediately ask for an inventory check before calling home office and making a big deal out of it.

if you are talking to the guys at the front desk, they might get carried away and forget the process of inserting the game in the box.

+2 at being polite. If they give you trouble, ask them to check against their quantity on hand for both SKUs.

Usually it's not too hard to get Gamestop to fix these mistakes (new or used, actually) assuming you return it to the same store you bought it from. Their inventory numbers would show them +1 a copy of the game you bought and -1 the one they gave you.

I had a very good experience from there a couple days ago- pre ordered Fight Night Champion for PS3- picked it up, opened it and then realized I was a dumb ass for loading an xbox 360 game in to my ps3....went back and they swapped it for the ps3 w/ no issue. (it was their fault after all for grabbing the wrong system, but still I was worried since the game had been opened...)

Went back about 5 days later to return it for store credit- it wrang up as $25, but since the demand was high, they swapped it for a $60 pre order for Dragon Age 2. Very impressed w/ their customer service overall.

Gamestop here by me is very good. they had a used game sale on. I placed and reserved my 3 games. Going out the door, my son calls. Car is dead. Off to fix, by the time we are done I am too tired and its too late.
I go the next day, Sorry, sale ended yeasterday. It was a Buy 1 get 2 free sale. I said I have my "Internet reserve from yesterday. So you can see its legit but I had to help my son can you do anything". Boom. No prob, rang it up and out I walked a customer for life.

Yup, say what you will about GS prices and the way they treat "new" games... but they try to make it up to you in service if you ever have a legit issue.

I'd be sure to have great customer service also if I was making that much money by cutting developers out of the profit stream.

How exactly is GS "cutting developers out of the profit stream"?

I guess by buying and selling used games? Meh, the whole thing is overblown anyway. Used sales happen in practically every other industry but no one complains as much as game publishers.

And remember, GS sells NEW games as well, and quite a lot of them. I'm sure they do more to help the game industry than they do to hurt it.

I only buy from GS if the price is close to Amazon's used price. If not I don't mind waiting a couple days. This is usually only the case when the game has been out for at least a year or more.

Yeah there's a game I want to buy that's less than $20 (new) at Amazon but over $30 (used!) at GS.

Once in a while they have okay deals though, or at least they're somewhat close. The main reason I buy from GS is if there's a game I want right now, like if I have friends over or something.

Called up the store and asked if I could go to another store closer by. He said best to bring it back to the original store so they could check inventory. His exact words - "Yeah, they're probably not going to believe you, just take it here." Got disc replaced.

Probably makes up for the time I sold a game to them and only included the "making off" dvd in the case. About 2 years later after I moved out of state, I was going through some of my old games and find the actual game dvd.

I've found Gamestop to be very flexible in general when it comes to console games. I got a broken disc from there once and they exchanged it no questions asked (I had receipt).
