Bought earrings for a girl, and she doesn't have Ear Piercing

I bought this pair of earrings when I was in New York and sent it to her in Asia. She called me, telling me that she liked it very much and it's beautiful and all that, and then she proceed to say that she didn't have her ears pierced.

Have this happened to any of you guys?

I guess that just teaches me to get necklaces instead. Something that doesn't require poking holes in body parts.
