Just complaining.

Bought the 16GB DDR3L memory from Fry's, install the memory on HP laptop, bluescreened several times.

Probably moving some files at the time, then corrupted the NTFS partitions. Needs to use data recovery software to get data back.

Test your brand new memory before using it!

When I use MemTest86 to test the memory, it found 14 errors!

Do memory vendors really test their memory?

Well, there is a reason, sometimes, that RAM is considered "Mac Memory". Sometimes the sub-timings are different enough, as I understand it, that sometimes they aren't fully compatible with generic or OEM PCs.

Or, possibly they were just defective.

I had some Centon, I think it was, DDR RAM, that I bought at CompUSA (remember them) on sale. On my Intel 845P and 865P chipsets, the RAM ran just peachy. But plug it into an A64 rig, which apparently has a "more demanding" DDR DRAM controller on it, and it started throwing errors eventually left and right during Test #3 in Memtest86+.

Was the RAM defective, in that case? Or just a corner-case of compatibility?

Could yours be a similar issue?

That's why I buy boring uncool stock-speed Crucial memory, using their memory selector. No fins or LEDs, but after a couple decades with Micron/Crucial I still value "just works" over excitement or saving a few dollars.

That said, testing new RAM is always a good idea. Every vendor ships a defective stick now and then.

My HP laptop came with 4GB Micron memory, then I added another 4GB G.Skill. Both running 11-11-11-28.

Run them for 3-4 years and no issue.

The Corsair is 11-11-11-30. That makes a difference?

Sometimes some sticks of RAM don't like playing with others, or in certain systems. Like DaveSimmons mentioned, I only buy RAM that is on the QVL. Memory errors are annoying, so I like to play it safe (but I will use Micron/G Skill/Corsair as long as it's certified as compatible).
