Huh. I'm surprised, I've only heard of XFX units being pretty quiet. That's what the newegg reviews for this unit say as well. Also, doesn't the unit have hybrid fan control?

Replacing the fan is not a good idea, it might not work in the way you wanted it to, and it'd void warranty anyway.

Hmm, what do you mean by hybrid fan control?

EDIT:
Just measured my old PSU's fan, it's 80mm. Since this XFX is 135mm, perhaps it's not "loud", just a lot louder than me previous one. If that's the case, I've got half a mind to return it after all and get something smaller. I don't care for noise!

Hybrid fan control means the fan will deactivate at low loads/temperatures.

Generally larger fans have better noise to cooling ratio than smaller fans. Maybe you're just not used to the lower frequency of the larger fan

No it's definitely louder, and since it's audible even at idle I'm not sure about the hybrid fan control. Ohwell, I'll give a few days and see if anything changes.

Gonna bump this post because I returned the XFX I'd bought (was too loud) and now want to get this over with and just buy something. Read a lot of reviews of the Seasonic G Series 550W that all seem very favourable. All I want to make sure of is, can it run pretty much any CPU/single GPU combo i throw at it? My current PSU has 34A om 12V rail and runs my Gigabyte 670 and 2500K @ 4.1 GHz without issue, so isn't it realistic to expect this G Series (with 45A) to run the equivalent of the 2500K and 670 that future generations will bring?

I'm probably just suffering from some kind of buyer's remorse-inducing post-rationalization, but after ordering this PSU yesterday I've read some more reviews and comments on amazon/newegg that aren't entirely positive.
It seems people label it as "budget", "low quality parts" and suffering from frequent coil-whine. Could someone reassure me that it's a decent unit, or if not, convince me I ought to return it ASAP and get a different one?

Only gonna be powering a Gigabyte 670 and 2500k @ 4.2, just bought it since my current one is getting old and only has 34A on 12V rail (might not be enough for future upgrades).

I have a CX600M, and there is no "coil whine." It's pretty quiet. I think Corsair and Seasonic make the best power supplies. After having to return a CM PSU, Micro Center's deal on the CX600M was too hard to pass up. This is a good PSU, don't worry.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for the reassurance, although the Corsair discussion isn't really relevant anymore, despite the thread title.

To answer ur question - yes, G550 will handle any single GPU setup. It has 2x 6+2 pin connectors. At most you're going to have a 250W GPU and a 120W CPU (i.e. the highest end GPU and hexacore/octocore CPU), which is still safely below the rating.

Thank you, again.. I do enjoy the process of finding new hardware, but I gotta say, PSUs are probably the most difficult to make a proper decision on with so many factors and arbitrary noise measurements to consider. I believe the search is finally over!

Well, there have been a few developments since the first post so I can't blame you for not reading through the whole thing. Thanks anyway!

I am in the same boat like you.

I've owned both X650 and X660 and they were both dead silent i.e. no coil whine to speak of, and the fan would only turn on when bench-stressing both CPU and GPU simultaneously. But I would only recommend them if you can find them with a big promo or rebate, otherwise the G series. Also check out XFX's Gold rated units, they're essential Seasonic X series inside.

I looked at the X series as well, but in Denmark they're obscenely expensive and don't come in a great variety of wattages, as there's a jump from 460W to 750W, the latter of which costing a whopping 200 euro. The G series seems like a decent compromise, approximately 100 euro for the 550W - a bit steep, but it does appear to fulfill all my requirements.

Was that really a necessary thread bump?

Yes, I thought that link was germane to OP's original questions and would be informative to people like me who stumble upon this thread through Google searches or otherwise when searching for information on the CX600M.
