I don't think you'll see a dramatic difference over that HD3870x2. Your current card sits between a HD4850 and a HD4870. And the difference between them is like 20% or so. And the GTX260 is about equal to a HD4870, as OCguy said.

I'd say wait for the new Radeons to be available. The new HD5850 is expected to be faster than a GTX285, while being cheaper (should be 299$ before any promos). If anything, it should drop the prices on current gen a bit.

However, if you really want to go green, get that GTX260. It's still a nice card. You'll be able to reuse it as a PhysX card in the future too (provided you'll get another nVidia card for rendering).

Just wait till the 5870 comes out (just few more days) and 260 will sink in price, then get it.

You could wait, but if you're in the market for a ~$150 card a GTX 260 or 4870 would not be a bad way to go. The new cards (5850 and 5870) from ATI are probably going to be double that or more, so they will be out of your range. Also, I honestly don't see the current gen cards dropping too much more in the near future. It makes sense that $300-500 cards drop when a new generation launches, but the cards are so low already I just don't see them dropping significantly until there is a next generation card in the $150 price range the solidly out performs the GTX 260.

...it really comes down to how urgently you want the card. Waiting will always get you the same or better for less money, but IMO 2-4 months of better performance with a new card has value as well. Although, I'd shop around for a better deal then Best Buy.

for tweaking it, use evga precision. It should still work just fine. My PNY 8800 GT works with it.

You got a good one and the price (for Best Buy) is fine. I have an EVGA GTX 260 (216) and it plays every game I have at the moment very well. Left mine at stock - but EVGA Precision is a very easy to use tool.

Are the new nV cards supposed to be out within 100 days?

I can't answer any questions like that since I'm under NDA.

Fair enough. But can you answer any non-specific questions, like how many FPS does the GTX380 pull in Far Cry 2 with 8XAA on 1080P?

And also, when am I going to be able to slap two of them in my case?

Thanks,

OCguy

MIN: 53.38FPS
MAX: 117.19FPS
AVG: 82.36FPS

You will file taxes early and receive your tax return in mid-February. You will have ordered your cards already in anticipation of receiving your tax return, and receive them on 2/18/10. You will install them that evening at around 7:38pm.
