Well, I just got rid of my Athlon 64 3700 San Diego in favor of the Opteron 165 based on the overclocking potential. I am not too greedy as I would like to get this baby from 1800 to 2500 on stock everything. I am a gamer FYI.

I have an ASRock 939 Dual Sata board and my memory is pretty generic. Should I just move my memory speed down to DDR333 and bump the Opteron to 2500 and thats it? I am pretty good with GPUs however my CPU overclocking experience is poor.

Thanks in advance!

Lets keep all the opty 165 advice in one spot !

Yes but I want specific advice regarding my board and using generic memory. I dont it should be buried in another post.

I never complain about a post but this is crap

try the search function....

Generic ram and opteron is an issue

OC is based on fsb and ram speed....2500 should be a fsb of around 280...so you need to make sure your ram runs at speed it will work without errors on a divider

you may not hit 2500 at a stock vcore

good luck..try searching and then reask your question if need be
