Bought an item on another forum, paid based on it being shipped that day USPS.

Ok, so I bought an item on another forum. The price, quite frankly was ok, but not that good, but I was willing to pay a little more under the condition that it was shipped that day USPS. The seller agreed. Today, I receive a PM saying it was shipped out, UPS Ground (with no explanation, just a tracking number and saying it shipped).

I respond asking why it was shipped UPS.

The seller then said he was not going to be able to get it to USPS by 3PM (which apparently is their cutoff?), and that the person (don't know who this is) told them it'd be here at the same time if shipped UPS Ground that day (yesterday - Thursday) as it would shipped USPS on Friday.

How much should I be displeased? I know they were probably wanting to do right by having it shipped out that day, but it was not the agreed method. I told them that honestly, I would not have paid the price I had if it was not going to be the case and am now waiting a reply. I'm more bummed than anything, and I don't want to be a prick.

Ah, just got a response. They said they don't understand since USPS isn't guaranteed to even be here by Wednesday. I replied with basically the previous paragraph.

Bumfuck towns probably have stupid USPS cut-offs like 2 and 3 PM. Or he's lying. Big deal, ask for the difference you agreed to pay, which'll probably get destroyed by PP fees, or just leave him neutral heat (not worth a neg if you ask me).

doesn't sound major to me

If you get it in the same amount of time then what's the big deal? I bet the cost was nearly the same.

I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't think UPS would be slower than USPS parcel post (which I assume is what he was going to use).

I would rather have USPS over UPS just because for UPS to deliver to my apartment, someone needs to be around, as there is no door person to buzz the guy in.

I don't think Brooklyn counts as bum fuck town.

Using USPS website it estimated 2 day, so I was hoping it'd be here Saturday. Even if it went out Friday it'd very likely still be here before UPS Ground. UPS also doesn't deliver to me until about 6 or 7 PM (whereas USPS often delivers in the morning or around noon-1PM at the latest).

Exactly the reason I want USPS on shipments.

My best advice is to wait it out and see what happens. Add the person to your DNT list if it ticked you off that much and if the price difference is huge then I'd ask for a partial refund.

You paid for certain shipping and he/she did not hold up their end of the deal. It's a minor issue but like I said, if it all works itself out then just move on with your life. There are bigger things to worry about.

 My bad.

With that add'l info, it seems like you got screwed over by not having it shipped USPS. Add to your DNT list, and ask for the S&H $ back.

No way man, when you pay for something you expect to get it. You don't just settle for whatever the guy decides. If you bought a 19" monitor from me, would you be cool if I told you I just sent you a 17" without even notifying you?

thats a lot different then this situation though. the guy shipped it the same day, the post office was closed. when you buy on forums you are usually lucky if it gets shipped before you call the cops.

He didn't say the post office was closed, just that after 3PM, they wouldn't load the package onto a truck to go to the distribution center. But based on how the OP phrased it, it sounds like the sender didn't actually ask at the post office and just chose to send it how he wanted.

And as listed, there are other reasons to use USPS over UPS/Fedex/DHL, one of them being that a third party shipper can't easily leave packages inside the entranceway of an apartment building without a door person, while the USPS can.

It may be different in value, but in principle it's the same. You don't dick around with an online agreement without notifying those involved. Plus, if he agreed to ship by a certain day... then it's his own damn fault he couldn't get there by 3. Don't make promises you can't keep.

And just because there are scammers out there doesn't mean you should just deal with what you get. You paid for something, you should get it or it's just another form of scamming.

i do understand that yes he should have done what he said he would do, but from all of my buying experiences on forums this would be the least of my worries. would i buy from the guy again? probably not because from the sounds of it he is lazy and possibly a liar.

i rarely buy anything on forums anymore, while i have had several good buys the bad ones make it not worth it.

just out of the top of my pm list from another forum that i bought and sold quite often on.
i was glad that i finally got this item and it worked.

sadly this is more common then a good sale.

My only concerns would be:
Will it arrive in the same time frame?
Did I over pay for shipping since he changed methods?

Even then, the time frame probably isn't much if any more and the price was likely about the same.
I'd just chalk it up to the guy trying to get it to me quickly and not worry about it.

I would say that the seller actually sent it from his place of employment, through the mail room, thus avoiding any cost to him whatsoever.
I get a lot of packages like that, seller quotes you either a shipped price, or a separate price for shipping, then, when you get the package, it has a corporate return address on it! Kinda upsets me when they quote you a separate shipping price!

I prefer USPS because you don't have to sign for it, like at UPS, therefore you get it a day earlier because you don't have to fill out that slip they leave on your door allowing them to drop it off when they bring it back the next day.

does the trader not understand that you needed usps for the reason that ups requires sig/cant get into your apartment complex? If so, shipping should be refunded to you. If not, you should have explained it. Some people (who you probably don't want to trade with in the future) probably figure UPS, USPS whatever as long as it gets delivered about the same time.
