Why pay even a cent more? Still waiting on your answer btw. If money does indeed grow on trees, I wholeheartedly apologize - and if you'd let me know the location of said trees, I'd appreciate it ;)

Becuase the UI is better and because the aftermarket options are far greater than any other mp3 player. However, I myself would still not purchase one. The one thing I don't get is how you still make them out to be crazy fvcking expensive. Have you even checked the prices lately?

Other players are far from difficult to use, and offer benefits which the ipod doesn't have. You act as if being able to spend even more money on something like an FM tuner, vs. buying a cheaper player which already has one, is a good thing... Have you checked the fact that I've been much less inclined to yak about them lately? Price plays a part in that, though they're still too expensive.

I agree, they are from difficult to use. That doesn't change the fact that the iPod is many cases is better, does it? No, I don't, I just don't like your tone, not that it matters at all. I do think spending a bit more to get many features is worth it, thats why I would buy an iAudio X5.

Without fail I get attacked for it; told that ipods are good not because of <reasons 1, 2 and 3>, but because I'm a <insert name here>, because I should "stfu", etc. I haven't changed my thesis, I've simply realized that if I call someone childish because their response to my debate points is "stfu ur dummyhed", I'll be lambasted for it due to their strerngth in numbers and have their assumption be that I'm calling them childish for liking ipods. I'd like to have more faith in the intelligence of my fellow man, especially on a tech board which should have the cream of the intellectual crop... but I've been let down :(
Yet you continue to worsen your position with such statements.
How so? I'm commenting on the group mentality here, not liking/disliking ipods.

Funny though, getting this from someone who so blatantly attacked me not long ago that he got his posts deleted, the thread locked and a mod warning ;)

You call that an attack? An extremely weak one at best, and what can I say, at least what I said was true. I don't need the mods to stand up for me anyway.

And regarding:

That's the problem, essentially, and I addressed this in my last reply to goose.

I read the reply. I am merely suggesting that whenever you say such things, you aren't helping your case. Who are you to make such a broad statement about the people on this board with regards to intelligence?

If it was so weak, why did a moderator staff which has no love for me go as far as it did? Your attacks had no place in that thread.

why would you ever consider an ipod? If you need a good player, there are plenty out there like an iriver based one/creative based one. I'd return it if I were you and get another player because you've clearly seens it's already crap.

Maybe because, despite its price tag, it does an excellent job doing what it's supposed to?
So do other players, and they're less expensive & sound better. There's a very simple fact that you cannot get around; advertising costs money, and lots of it. Especially during sports playoffs, which Apple does. That money has to come from somewhere, otherwise Apple would lose money.

Btw OP, the headphones most players come with, Apple or otherwise, are *garbage*. If you have another pair - any pair - try them out and see if the phones, rather than the shuffle, are to blame. Also do yourself a favor and look into getting a nice pair of phones. Claiming sound quality isn't important is just another way of saying "I've never heard a nice setup" ;)

My Iriver H10 came with Sennheiser MX400's which are quite nice.

Ya, that's why I said most - some Irivers and Rios come with those Senns.

i call shens on those senns

By saying the stock buds aren't horrible you're saying sound quality isn't important. It goes far beyond music not being muffled, hissy or having pops.

Goddamnit, not this again. We have been over this many times. While Apple may advertise much more than most other companies, you have yet to prove this makes them charge as much as you act like they do.
Where does the money come from then? Does it grow on trees? Does Apple operate at a loss?

Please show me how the iPod costs SOOOO MUCH. Honestly, I would like to know. You act like it is 2x the cost of other players when in reality it is usually no more than $50 more, or even equal.

An iPod easily costs cdn$400+. that's way out of the spending range for many people.

They're definitely far from the pinnacle of sonic reproduction, but they beat the snot out of the trash most DAPs come with.

Thats too bad, because here you can get them for just under $280 (US of course), which when using the curent exchange rate, is just under $350 CDN.

quibbling over sound quality over sh*t included buds is bogus anyways. good buds cost over 100 dollars so pinching pennies in high end audio is a lost battle. and as stated in my earlier post... the shuffle has better sound quality than most other players anyways.
