I synch'd some audiobooks, songs, and a few apps - now i'm down at about 3Gbs left.

is there any way to see what is taking up all the room?

Edit: it's a 1st gen iphone.

Bought a used one on craigslist for 200. it had the error message that the device connected was not compatible & asked me to put it in airplane mode.

She had the receipt - it was purchased 9 months ago. I took it to the Apple store & they gave me a brand new one!

I'm so hyped. I stayed away from the iphone, but after using for 1 day, i'm hooked.

In iTunes.. when the iPhone is connected just click on it, and you'll see a breakdown of what's taking up all the space. Some will be taken up by the OS (1 GB/500 MB I believe), and then you have all the extra stuff that you can put on there (Audiobooks, music, videos, etc...)

Sounds like the lady who he bought it from left the SIM card in it.

yea but if you upgrade to 3G or anything... the sim becomes invalid.. the iPhone won't be able to retrieve a signal

Regardless of whether it has the original SIM or the original owner, Apple will take care of it if it is still under AppleCare.
