and SampSon, i would have gone to subaru, but none of their wagons come in with what i could get the Malibu Maxx for. My dad and i have never had any sort of issues with any GM vehicle we have ever owned. the cheapest Subaru (Impreza) starts at more than i walked out of the dealer paying, and the MAXX gets better MPG. its just a thing with me being able to obtain Employee Pricing whenever i want.
Yea, with the current rebates and cash allowances GM prices are very low. You also get the GM employee discount so you get a heafty sum chopped off there. Really, in your position the deal is nearly impossible to pass up.

I personally drive about 1000 miles per week for work out in the mountain ski country, AWD was a must. I also needed a car that would not need a dime put into it for 100K miles and then would easily take me to 250K miles. I've never had a GM or any american brand car for that matter last that long. As for the MPG on the cars, the maxx and the impreza have nearly identical EPA ratings. Maxx is at 22/30 and the impreza is at 22/29. The impreza has AWD that kills gas mileage and the maxx has a v6, so they are nearly dead even. As for you achieving 35mpg, I don't think you will achieve that in any regularity, unless you drive 40-55mph on cruisecontrol without ever stopping or accelerating for at least half a tank of gas. I get 25mpg mixed driving on my impreza during the winter and 28mpg mixed driving during the summer. I generally shift low and get into high gear fast. Though of course I do have fun and get on the car when I feel like it. Though no matter how much I stomp on it it never drops below 25 mpg.

I got my subaru for 17K out the door, while a maxx would have cost me nearly 22-24K. Not to diss on the maxx or anything, but the subaru prices start at that price point because you get a generally accepted superior car. Actually most car prices start around that mark except for GM which is dropping prices incredibly low because they are bleeding billions of dollars and need anyway to get people into their show rooms. Anyway, it was just the state of the car market at that time.

I'm sure the car will serve you well. You probably don't drive a fraction of what I do so It will last you long enough.

Congrats on the new Malibu! I've been itching to try out the new generation as I'm a little impressed from what I've heard so far. The previous generation malibu was a lemon, as I've driven one belonging to a family member. They could have been decent, but GM cut too many corners with that model.
If I did get one of the new generation, I couldn't bring myself to get the four cylinder. I've driven four cylinder cars before and although they were still great, I think that the malibu would have a little bit of a "cavalier" effect to it. Pulling the 3.1L v6 engine option for those just killed the car for me long before they changed the styling. A four cylinder just doesn't compare.
Let us know how the car does after you get some more mileage on it. Congrats.

Great price, but you'll probably get hit on it during resale, that is, if you ever resell it.

Nice car, just not my cup of tea.

it's a good price, but GM's resale really suffers.

Cars are not investments. Cars are meant to be driven.
A honda with 250,000 miles will be worth just as much as a gmwith 250,00 miles.

oh but a GM with 25000 miles will not give you as much as a honda with 25000 miles

but i guess since he saved thousands on it, the resale will be compensated by its low price.

ill keep this car for 10 years, not 25k miles, but like 175k miles.

OOF.

honestly though, if you're happy that's good. Just because a car has a piss poor reputation doesn't mean every vehicle is going to be ******. A lot of it is prolly ppl who don't maintain their vehicles

OOF??

and the malibu doesnt have a piss poor reputation. its got a good old GM pushrod v6 engine, a reliable old 4 speed auto, and i havent seen many problems with them at all, or recalls.

i love my 98 mailbu. kept it nice for a few years and then it was relegated to "work car". never had a problem other than batteries and one alternator. ive abused that car to helll and back, and it keeps running like a champ. ive got the 6 and still get around 25mpg. i see alot of older mailibus out on the road, so they cant be that bad.

I almost got one myself, but got an irresistable deal on a Tribute.

Does the front headrest bother you? I drove a couple of rental Maxxes and my head had to bend forward uncomfortably.

MIKEMIKE! You car sucks! j/k

Congrats on the new car! I like how the new malibu looks! I'm sure insurance is low + the mileage is damn good for a V6 engine pushing out 200hp/220lb/tq per feet

im getting about 22 right now with only 110 miles on the car. It was averaging 2 when i bought it, since it was just being idled around and what not. but ill let you guys know what i get on the turnpike this weekend when i go up to Michigan for New Years Eve.

im guessing ill return 33mpg at 70mph

Going out on a limb here but I'm going to say there's a few more Hondas with 250k miles on them than GMs 😉

id say thats false.

sure there are all the people who say well hondas are more reliable etc, but how long have Honda and tehm been in the U.S. and how long has GM been in the U.S.? then compare again.
