bought a wrt54gs from a local store

I noticed the box was odd...tirns out it's v1.0 router.

should I return it and try to find an updated model?

I read that the original v1.0 had older components and that the v1.1 and higher had upgraded switch controllers?

comments anyone?

Unless it was on sale really cheap, I wouldn't keep a version 1.0 of the router. Take it back and tell them that it's a very old model that doesn't have the features you need and you'd like to exchange it for a new one.

Basically, version 2.0 and newer have a faster internal processor and a better radio transmitter than 1.0 and 1.1, and version 2.2 and higher have more memory than earlier revisions.

The WRT54GS v1.0, is similar to the WRT54G v2.0, except that the GS has double the amount of RAM and flash ROM. IOW, the WRT54Gv2.0's are fairly highly prized, and the GSv1.0 is the same except with twice as much memory. Don't return it, use it!
