Bought a widescreen HDTV, what's a good tuner/receiver?

I'd just get DirecTV or HD service from your local cable provider.

For OTA and for QAM cable, I'd suggest the LG LST-3510A, which includes DVI output, and a built in DVD player (which can output via the DVI too). It has one of the most sensitive HDTV tuners on the market, and has excellent progressive DVD output too. It's just under $450 or so.

here is my 2 cents for Voom (www.voom.com)...

have had since December and haven't had any problems with it...check avsforums.com...there is also a good yahoo group dealing with.


you can rent the hardware from them or buy it outright...most HD programming available anywhere...

voom is nice, the HD channels are cool but all the movies that they offer on them are dated sadly. It's expensive, in comparison to the other available mediums (antennae, digital cable or sat) but also has the most amount of HD channels available. one thing I noticed when I played with it is that the channels take FOREVER to change through their reciever and install takes 8 years...have they fixed those problems yet?

the channel thing should be fixed in the next week or so when they push the new software update to the boxes...

you can select the package with zero down and rent the box for $10 a month (I think there is an additional $5 month on top of this though) as opposed to paying $400 upfront to own the equpment...

Maybe I am just one of the few, but I haven't had any problems since I had them...

If HD programming is what the OP is looking for, should definitely look into this option.
