I'm looking at the motherboard and I can't seem to see any problem with the board physically, no burn marks, no cracks, everything seems soldered correctly.

As someone that has a few hours to kill, what would you guys suggest looking for? I've got a soldering gun and a multimeter :p

I've already got a PS3.

Then the only thing you need to do is throw the N64 away. :p

It doesn't have the memory expansion pack, and the physical connector seems to be pretty solidly connected.

They all have an upgradeable memory chip, although not necessarily the expansion pack. It's under the cover on top of the console. If the chip is loose or the connector is damaged, this might cause problems like you describe.

I just checked the power supply and the 12V line is only giving off 10.7V... think that could be the problem?

I bought it at a goodwill store... If I can fix it, then I got a good deal. If I can't, I only wasted $3.

Any solution I could think of would cost more then the whole system.

What does that say about the PS3 when you have one and you're trying to revive a $3 N64

How far do you want to go?

If that's the original power supply and the 12V input is sagging to 10.7V, the voltage regulator could be faulty. Look for a chip that says 7805 or 1117 or has XXXX-5.0 or 3.3. Look up the datasheet and see what the output voltage should be. If it's not a simple linear regulator like above, just keep looking up chips and looking for a power regulator.

check av cable, i know cable doesn't usually go bad... but it did with mine ps2 av cable, due to cat chewing on it.
