why do people buy swords nowadays? they have guns for those purposes. 😛

(no, seriously. is it just a display piece or what?)

If you live in an apartment the sword is a much better self defense tool than the gun. If you thrust at an intruder and miss it is highly unlikely that the blade will go through the wall and kill your neighbors.

Unless your assailant has a gun and can shoot at you long before you are close enough to swing a sword at him.

There really is no practical use for these budget swords. As a display piece, I can't see why you would want one that isn't an actual antique, and as a practice piece for those interested in sword fighting for sport, you wouldn't want a shoddy weapon that was made just to hang on a wall.

That's what shotguns are for.

Some people would like to adorn an entire room with various weaponry. To do so with only authentic antique pieces would require more $$ than the average guy-who-wants-lots-of-swords-on-the-wall makes or can devote to decoration. Same goes for guys who want to throw up some junk and swing at it with a sword.

What do you expect people to do when they run out of shells for their guns? Throw the gun at the target like the stupid bad guys did to the old superman...

Sure there is! When you just want to beat on a side of beef without ruining the edge on your real sword. 🙂

Guns, excepting for bazookas and howitzers, are much less cool than even a cheap sword. :|

oh, and maybe later today I'll get some pics for you guys of me holding my coooooool sword while jumping off of my deck.

If you want a good quality sword, you need to check it out in person, not online. The Renaissance Festivals have blacksmiths that make swords. Most of them are crap but once in a while you find a good dealer that has quality. A few months ago I bought a hand-made O-Dachi from one. His shelf price was $500. After some haggling he came down to $425. It is 'battle ready', has a lifetime warranty, and is the strongest and sharpest blade I own. This thing could go through a neck in one swing if swung well.

Is there a need for swords? Not really. Does that matter? No. Some people just like to collect them.

funny thing is, HSN ppl started laughing instead of helping him or calling an ambulance 😀 i guess it happens quite often 🙂
