Bought a Southwest Voucher need help

Called to book the flight for my son. It appears that they are asking for lots of info to try and track whether he actually received it.

Any ideas on how to get this done? I know it cannot be sold but can I say the coupon was a gift?

It is a "green must fly pass" if that matters.

I think they may be working hard to save the seats on the non stop flight that is left.

From Southwest's website:
If you are holding other forms of Southwest Airlines travel credit (e.g., travel voucher, paper gift certificate, unused paper ticket, discount coupon), please contact Southwest Reservations at 1-800-IFLYSWA® (1-800-435-9792) for information on how to use those payment options.

"more than 100 sellers were taking bids - usually offering to sell Southwest drink coupons that came with free round-trip vouchers. They typically go for around $350, meaning buyers are using awards for pricey, last-minute trips."

IME, if you shop carefully, you can often get a better legit deal than buying an overpriced voucher anyway. It helps if you have the required 21 day advance purchase time, as flying at "walk-up" rates is usually much more expensive.

Thanks for the info. I paid $385 and the flights I want are $658. Thats why I went the auction route.

I am trying to find out if I can tell them the ticket was a gift from a relative since they are wanting to backtrack to a rapid reward number.

Tell them you don't know because it was a gift from a friend. Which shouldn't be a problem since it says in their own conditions that you can give the vouchers away to friends. If the CSR still gives you a hard time, just hang up and call again. Or, tell whoever you bought it from to book it for you.

This pass has no cash value, it cannot be sold, refunded, upgraded, exchanged, extended, reissued, revalidated, or used toward purchase of other tickets.

Think extended means given to someone?

A roundtrip Award has been deposited into your Rapid Rewards account, which means you can travel for free to anywhere you can fly on Southwest Airlines! Plus, you can allow a friend or family member to use your Award, giving you even more flexibility. Here's how to use your Award.

No, Rapid Rewards can be extended for $50 I believe, they are just saying this pass cannot be extended. If I remember your son is in the military. Just make sure to play this up and say a family friend offered you the pass so he could come home. You should basic information (name, address, phone no.) about this "friend" though and come up with a cover story (college friend my husband etc.)

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks.

Maybe this is the problem

* You - not the person using your Award - will need to book the flight by visiting southwest.com or calling Reservations.
* After you book the flight, provide the person who will be using your Award with the confirmation number and itinerary you receive.
* At the time of reservation you will need to provide a credit card number to pay the government-imposed September 11th Security Fee of up to $10 roundtrip.
* For account security reasons, we recommend that you never give out your password or other information about your Rapid Rewards account.

Get the seller to book for you. If s/he won't do it, get a refund because it's worthless to you.

This is a "green pass". If you show up 5 min. from departure at the gate, you are on as long as there is an empty seat. Not a RR voucher.

Well unless you bought it from an auction service 🙂

Just to update, once southwest realized that I had a "green pass" I had no problems booking the flight.
