Well I decided to go with ATI and upgrade my Leadtek GF2Pro 32mb. Purchased it from newegg for $165 shipped. I have never purchased a ATI product before, so this will be my first impression of their products. Hope all goes well!!!:)

Just did the ole switcheroo myself.

With the latest drivers, you'll really enjoy the Radeon 8500.

I highly recommend the tweaked drivers from Redsoftware. The driver set is based on ATi's latest 6052 beta drivers, plus bundled tweaking utilities; Radeonator, Rage3d Tweak, and ATI Refresh Fix.

I switched from Hercules Prophet Geforce 3 TI200 to Radeon 8500 and I cant be more happier. 2D image is SO much better! No probs with games as well.

80-90% of the performance of a GF4 4600 at 40% of the price.

Don't have any applications that test the limits of either!

Enjoy!

Atrail : The 8500 is a great card if you have the time and patience to get it working efficiently, I've tried three different driver sets since last weekend when I brought it - originally I had serious problems with font and texture corruption whilst looking at the Windows desktop and playing certain games (AvP2, Renegade and CS all spring to mind).

Tates : I tried the Redsoft drivers you suggested a couple of days ago and they are certainly better than the standard drivers supplied by Rage3D, most of my 8500 based problems have now vanished. Cheers for the link!

Now the only problem I have is when I take a screenshot using print screen the resolution on the fonts come out at a very low resolution. Its weird because the desktop looks fine to look at, I print screen and copy it into a paint program (tried PSP7, MS Paint and Fireworks) the fonts are really blockly - Solutions??

are you serious ?? ... is the Radeon 8500 really that comparable (in performance 2D/3D) to GeForce 4 Ti ?

Generally yes, but it depends on the game. The ol' 8500 actually trounces the 4600 in Serious Sam 2 at higher resolutions. Must suck to be NVIDIA right now :p

I don't know if it performs 80-90% of G4 TI or not, but if it does, well great.
I really just wanted something faster that would support the DX8 features for some new games on the horizon that I know will use these features. Newegg has it packaged an ready, hope it ships before the end of the day!:)

Oh yeah thanks Tates for those links.

Is there any specific procedure for uninstalling my GF2???

Thanks

Goto Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs
Nvidia Display Drivers
Remove

Use a good utility like RegCleaner to clean up your registry of any orphans.

Shut down, remove your GF2, install the Radeon 8500, start her up.

When Windows starts up and prompts you that it has found new hardware, ignore the prompts to search for drivers and escape out. Install the new Redsoftware executable and the new ATi drivers will auto install. When prompted to reboot, press yes.

Viola...enjoy:D
