Bought a new PSU but I'm wondering if I should have gone bigger

Probably should have thought about this sooner, but I bought a Seasonic G series 550w PSU last week. I'm wondering if I should think about returning it and going bigger. Not having any issues with it at all, but I'm wondering a little about future proofing.

Currently running a Haswell i5 4760k CPU, 2x4GB RAM, ASUS Z87-Pro, Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB with an SSD and two traditional hard drives. I never plan on running more than one video card, and typically I wait at least a couple years between upgrades. Hoping to OC this CPU in the future. Judging by power consumption of this video card (165w max) and an OC'd 4760k (about 160w), I think I should be fine.

What do you guys think?

That PSU is plenty for a single-GPU system. You could run a GTX480 or a Titan on that PSU and those cards use a lot more power than a GTX760.

The short: you are fine. Good, reputable company, tested performance good, hardware teardown confirims Japanese capacitors.

If one was solely looking at reliability(that is, the PSU not breaking prematurely), there is no point in spending for more wattage or spending for the sake of spending unless MTBF of the parts inside the PSU results are significantly higher.

Now, understandably, the MTBFs of the parts are not easily accessed or are not available for the consumer to see. The closest proxy we have is that Japanese-made capacitors are longer-lasting than their Chinese counterparts. The lifespan of other components are not know. That integrated circuit, transformer, or resistor isn't going to tell you its MTBF. So, the tiebreaker is based on "performance", of which the most important part is having electricity output as close to direct current as possible. Making making sure the PSU can output what it is says on the label and that sufficient headroom is there for the unit are also important. Protection circuitry is also valuable to have.

^ All other components have higher MTBF than the capacitors, even if they were Japanese. An exception might be the really crude fans found in some generics.

I pull under 500 watts from the wall at full load with my sig specs, which is more power hungry than yours by quite a bit, and keep in mine, it's measured from the wall, meaning power draw from the actual PSU is less. In other words, nothing to worry about and plenty of power left to spare.

Nothing wrong with the psu and your specs. But seasonic has great deals every 6 weeks or so on the plat 660 and the plat 760.
the plat's are better if you get a deal here was the latest deal.

it has more then you need but with the low price you may as well have it. the 760 is about 99 when it is a deal.

You should be fine with what you have. Unless you plan on pumping a whole lotta volts into that cpu. I'd say sit tight.

The G650 is $60 after rebate today at Newegg. Nice PSU for the price.
