Bought a new laptop and it has a dead pixel :-(

WEll, I just bought a new laptop and it has a dead pixel on it. Now I have to trudge back down to the store and exchange it. I am going to test the next one I get instore. It is a waste of time, but I still have to do it 🙁 Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Wasn't there a way to get rid of some dead pixels? I think you have to put on a white background and turn up the brightness all the way up. I heard someplace that that can fix some dead pixels?

My compaq did when I got it.
FIrst of several problems for that POS. Finaly came to aggreement with compaq that they refunded part of my purchase price and were suppose to keep the stupd thing in their repair center. Dumb ppl sent me a check and sent me the dumb laptop with half the ram removed. Apparently last time they were working on it they damaged a stick of ram and sent it back in a barely working state. Lucky for them I was kind enough to tell them they were stupid and sent me the laptop. Next thing I know they send someone to my door to pick it up. Where the heck was that guy the first 4 times i had to send the stupid thing back?
Moral? Dont buy compaq.

I went with a dell the 2nd time.

White bg, with high brightness

thats my laptop screen everytime I open IE. And probaly most peoples screen on opening word etc...
If normal use doesnt fix it, I doubt that woul.d

Good luck
one pixel is not a good reason for replacement.
(according to some manufacturers)
I would take 110v across the display before I tried to return it

I heard you do that to fix a burnt in image, not bad pixels. I don't know if I believe any of this stuff for repairing burn in or dead/stuck pixels on an LCD. But I guess it's worth a try.

same thing happened to me when I bought my toshiba 1.5 years ago. They wouldn't take it back because of just one. Needless to say I've yet to invest in an LCD monitor because of this :|

I could not agree more. I have had more problems with my Compaq laptop than you would believe. Not to mention their support is given the worst rating of the big OEM's by Consumer Reports.

Compaq = teh suck.

When I got my ibm, it had a couple red and blue pixels. I read at this one place that you can massage the screen for a while and it starts to work again. I tried it and it works. I don't know if it works when the pixel is completely dead though, worth a try.

You think one dead pixel is bad? Some manufacturers consider 5 to be the cutoff and still be a saleable LCD!

and not without good reason

cry me a river, build a bridge, and get the fvck over it

OMG IT HAS ONE DEAD PIXEL OMFG IM GOING TO SUE THOSE BASTARDS

do you realize how hard you have to be looking to see dead pixels? i just got my 19'' LCD and it has a blue pixel in the middle of the screen...RIGHT in the middle

guess how often i see it? umm never unless i purposely look for it

my last LCD...2 dead pixels in the upper right...guess how much i saw it? NEVER and i use the computer a LOT and i am picky

you just need to shut your trap and realize that it doesnt matter at all...it isnt going to hurt you or the laptop. if you get 10 more dead pixels, then send it back and demand

a fixed screen...but one? good lord

Yeah, I think that's what ViperGTS did with his LCD. Leave it going for af ew hours.

Well, I returned it and they gave me a new one and I have no problems with it. Pretty happy with it so far. I picked up the Sotce 820P. Thanks for all the recommendations everyone 🙂

It works if its stuck. I had one stuck and I massaged it back to life. hehe

And you need to stfu and realize it?s his money.

1 dead pixel is a big difference. When you buy something new.. You wouldnt buy a new car with a big scratch down the side would you? even though you know your kids or that dumb suv next to you gonna ding it in a week anyways.

Thats beside the point. Its very noticable when watching movies. You'll be watching a movie with a moving dark scene or something and tehres this one friggin dot that stands out.

yeah ill give you that...sorry i just get pissed off sometimes at peoples stupidity and maybe this guy has a reason it bothers him so much...im just used to the constant

complaining here on AT about everything...everyone here is a perfectionist and it works on me sometimes

depends on your store, should be fine for exchange.

if u bought it from a hole in the wall or directly from a company..might be harder. i had sony replace my laptop screen cuz it had a stuck white pixeld ead center. most annoying possible so they took it back.

official policy allowed for up to 5? i forget, some absurd amount. it should be perfect if you have to pay full price really. dead pixels should not be allowed unless with heavy discounting.

Sorry, I didn't want to seem like I was complaining, just had to vent. I hate buying new stuff and I get a (albeit slightly) damaged product. When I buy a nonused item I expect everything to work (at least until the warrant runs out 😛).

i can relate 🙂

The Compaq M300 I am typing this on right now has a dead pixel too. Thing that sucks is it's right in the middle of my screen.
