My first Walther. It's ultra compact, slimmer than any Glock. Kahr sized. 9mm.

They just came out a couple weeks ago, this one is a first edition, serial number 216.

I justified this purchase because my favorite carry peice, an HK USP Compact .357sig, took a giant crap for no reason the other day. It's a Variant 1, and turned itself into a double action only, fully automatic pistol. :Q This is a gun with about 500 rounds through it. An $800 with only about 500 rounds through it. My HK confidence is shaken.

Anyway, I'm willing to field any questions or comments about the new Walther PPS. I know it's ugly as sin, but it's tiny.

Someone managed to make a worse looking gun than Ruger.

Let us know how it shoots.

First of all, a compact .357 sig machine pistol is NOT fun to shoot. Especially that first burst (that you don't know is coming.)

Second of all, we could share a room at Club Fed. :p

Just be glad you didn't have it go full auto on you at a shooting range with cops around. They wouldn't believe the pistol did that on its own.

Nah, not my style.

But I did go into the gun store, and walk out 4 minutes later with the PPS, 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dot, and a cheap nylon inside-the-waistband holster. With no background check. I bet that scares the hell out of you liberals. God Bless Texas. ;)

Your title states you bought a new gun at lunch? I thought that there was a 7 or so day waiting period?

Federal Waiting periods went away in the late 90s IIRC. Very few states have waiting periods. Usually the FFL just calls you into NICS and you get your gun right then and there. If your states concealed carry program is thorough enough, then you get to skip that check and just present your concealed handgun license.

Funny, I was just helping a buddy put Hogue grips on his brand new "deagle" last night. All black, .50 AE. It's a beast. No other gun like it in the world.

different states have different rules.

i can get a handgun in about 20 minutes in PA after filling out all the paperwork and the shop owner doing a background check.

HK should fix that for you I imagine.

Yup, HK has already sent me a return authorization number.

How new was the gun?

Nothing is infallable after all.

IIRC it was produced in 2003, sat in a warehouse for a couple years, I bought it in 2005 or so off the internet, new in the box. About 500 rounds through it. :(

Here are the steps to purchase for those who live in Michigan...

- Apply in person for a License to Purchase.
- Wait for background check.
- Return to pick up the License to purchase. You have 10 days to purchase.
- Purchase pistol.
- Return back to the police department within 10 days of purchase to register & safety inspection.

Rinse and repeat for each pistol you wish to purchase. If you have a CCW you can skip all of this. The only thing you have to deal with is an NICS check that is completed by the dealer.
