Bought A New Dell Yesterday......

.....and today they announced free shipping! It's a Dimension 4600 and the shipping charges are $110. They threw in some crappy printer for free, which I don't need or want. Anyone have any luck contacting them after the fact and getting shipping charges tossed in a similar situation?

Call em and find out. Usually they can do that for you since your computer hasn't been built/shpped yet

Yeah, be nice on the phone and they probably will credit the shipping charges back to your account 🙂

Yes.

I never thought I'd buy a dell but my 400SC is awesome.

True call them they should ship it for free.

return it and get a real computer.... j/k 😀

I agree with pio!pio! and Xiety, call them and explain the situation and I'm sure they'll give you the deal.

Well, then, a-calling I shall be going. Let you know how it turns out. I can be very sweet and charming when I want to be.....

They have so many free shipping promotions I am surprised you got caught in a window when there wasn't one. The Hot Deals forums are always the first place I would check for a purchase that big either for free shipping or coupons.

If you call the same Division (Dell Home or SB) within 30 days and the difference is $50 or greater.

Usually you will receive credit for the difference.

Just got off the phone with Customer Service. A pleasant man with a strange accent, best described as fruity, told me it cannot be done. He said I could cancel the order and then reorder anew. But, my original order had a few other perks included. And when I configured the new order versus the original order, comparing apples to apples, the new order with the free shipping came out to about a $100 more?!
I was hoping just to keep my original order as is, and knock off the $110 for shipping. Maybe I will try again with another rep sometime later on.

Did you try the method I pm'd you ?

Carbo,

Is this through Dell Home or SB?

I have a coupon for Dell SB which should save you $75 off a Dimension 4600.

Not yet, Isekii, but I will. The order was placed yesterday, and I don't expect it for a week or so. Once I get it, I'll email Customer Service and see what I can do about knocking off the shipping charges, and maybe make a veiled threat about returning the order.

Much appreciated, RossMAN, but it's through Dell Home.

yes. a lot of people have told me this kind of story before.

Update........spoke with two Customer Service reps on the phone. One yesterday, and another today. Both said my order does not qualify for the free shipping promo because it was placed a day before. And the computer will not allow them to make that change. Now, we know that "computer won't allow me to make the change" jive doesn't cut it. But, that's the story line and it appears they're stickin' to it. :frown: I guess I'm out the $110......although I will try again. 😉

"I was just calling to ask if you wouldn't mind saving me the hassle of canceling my order and re-ordering it in order to get the free shipping. I have heard nothing but good about Dell Customer Service and figure I would give it a shot"... good luck

Yeah, but if I cancel and reorder, a similarly configured rig is actually about $100 or so more because of the promotions that were in effect when I ordered. Maybe I'm being too greedy, but that's what happens when you hang in Hot Deals. 🙂
Im sorry for your loss.
Pathogen03, may a pathogen infect your lower colon....😉

yup... done it but it wasn't a money difference for me. I placed an order and 2 days later they added a free CDRW drive to the deal... I called and they shipped the CDRW drive separately (the original order was already on its way). Didn't have to persuade much either. (BTW, turns out they fuct that 2nd shipment up and just sent a refurb'd CDROM - I called up and complained and they sent me an external CDRW in its place (got to keep the CDROM too) so I was still satisfied in the end).

No. It's actually on the 366th day of a one year warranty, munruss.
By the way, how's the ol' Pentium 75 running these days?
