I bought it an Intel 3.0 Ghz retail box CPU from Fry's. The guy there couldn't tell me whether it was an E or a C and I am not savvy enough to know. Can someone tell me how to figure it out? Second of all, if it is a C, are all 3.0 Northwoods created equal? i.e. are they all made the same way with the same features, etc?

you can check the box...

look at the sspec code i believe it is... if it's something like sl6w.... then it's a C
if it's sl7... then it's an E

all NW's are created... meaning they all have the same capabilities at stock speed with the same features...

An E would have 1MB of cache, a C would be 512K, if you can read that on the box.

What I'm wondering is, is how in the world the guy working at Fry's had no idea which CPU it was.
