Almost identical to this one POWERBOOK G4 667

He's wiping it and putting panther on it, and installing Office X on it.

i'm an apple-virgin.

Hit me up on AIM dude, I got your hookup! 🙂 That's a great computer (see my sig). I just installed Panther as well and it ROCKS THE HOUSE!

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

i'll do that later 🙂

<-- working now.

Congratulations. You have a brand new Apple that is slower than my 3.5 year old ThinkPad. (PIII-850, 256 MB PC-100 RAM, 32 GB 5400 RPM HDD, 1600x1200 15" screen, 6x DVD-ROM, 8x8x36 CD-RW)

ZV

EDIT: More seriously, that's a nice Apple. It'll serve you well.

The Apple is actually from 2001.

Anyways, guyver1, you did pretty well, because it has a Radeon and will make use of Quartz Extreme. The iBook G4 800 would have been nice too at $1100, but it wouldn't have come with 512 MB RAM or Airport. (Did you get those?) The one problem I see though is it doesn't come with a CD burner. Or did you get the DVD-ROM/CD-RW version? That one's even better, with the Radeon 7500.

Panther rocks though, as does the 15" wide screen. 🙂

Sweet, getting my new ibook g4 tomorrow. 12" O' pleasure. First apple for me. Though will suck to have to buy/get all the software I have for my PC.

yep... 512Mb RAM, built in AirPort Card... i got a linksys at home..

and it comes with DVD-ROM/CDRW 😀

Panther is installed... looks awesome!!!

it's a really good deal if that's a 667 w/ DVI.

on second thought...... it's a good deal w/o the dvi. the market price is about $1100-$1200.

check out Konfabulator, vlc, fire... enjoy ur powerbook and panther.

Hmmm... If it's the DVD/CD-RW, Radeon 7500, DVI one that's just killer. Even $$$$ Windows laptops today generally don't have DVI.

And check out Panther's best feature, Exposé. 🙂

What exactly is expose and what does it do? I've heard a lot about it, but I still don't know what it is....

Check the video I linked earlier. It basically automatically shrinks and tiles all the open windows on the computer so you can click on the one you want. Or you can just shrink and tile the windows of one specific app. Click on the desired window and it comes to the front. Or another option is the standard show desktop.

It's so much easier/faster than using the Taskbar (or Dock), or ALT-TAB. The other cool thing is that stuff like video, etc. continues to play normally in the shrunken windows.

I just asked my boss if I could get one of those 17" PowerBook G4s... and he said yes! :Q

Should I jump on it while he's still in a good mood? Or should I wait for the PowerBook G5?

The only reason I would even consider waiting is that if I go ahead and get the G4, there's no way in hell that I would get approval for a replacement laptop that costs so much anytime in the next 2-3 years. That, and because I'm not a Mac freak, I don't know how near the G4 is to the end of it's life-cycle...

If Apple announces some new products, it probably won't be until the Macworld Expo in January.
