Bought a new 360

Oddly enough, bought a 360 a couple weeks ago, and they gave me the old 203watt version! I thought all of these were supposed to be off the shelf.

In any case, I'm going to play the shit out of it before it dies, if it does, but I guess I can't really be too worried about it.

Could return it and ask for a different model. You can check the models you know from the box.
 
I'm not that concerned about it actually. It has no HDMI port, so that was a big minus since I had to a massive hunt for component cables! (Yeah I bought the Arcade version) But it's not next to my internet router, nor do I have any online games or a need to download anything, so I'm pretty much set, until it breaks.

Take it back for an exchange. They must have been hiding this one back in a store room for over a year and stumbled across it.
 
I bought a new one on Friday (Elite) and it the lights on the front don't work at all. I guess that's better than a red ring of death, but I'm still taking the thing back.

One reason I bought mine at Best Buy(or any big box concept really) is because I assumed they have more turnover than smaller stores.

Where did you buy it?
 
I bought it at a Dick Smith (big chain store here, kind of like Radio Shack) It was the only place at the shopping centre that had one in stock, as ever since the price drop of the Arcade version to $350 everywhere has been selling out of them.

I would've taken it back, but I'm not sure the hassle of explaining to bogan employees why I was returning it and demanding a newer one was worth it. Plus they probably wouldn't have taken it back anyway.

It's got a 3 year warranty though, so I'm not too concerned about it. Although last night it froze, and the game was skipping. Don't know if it was an issue with the game or the console but oi it starts already.

I don't think that really changed the equations much, though. Assuming you are still within your stores return period (14 days? 30 days? 90 days?), 'Take it back' is the still the correct option, with the explaination that it is defective. No further explanation required. If they don't take it back as per their standard store policy, then there are messageboard threads that deal with other return tactics, including calling the Regional Store Manager's office.

Is that really your only local B&M with stock? Does Australia get anal about purchases from US online retailers? Form the US, I have bought BBC related videos and books from the UK version of amazon, with no problems. The credit card companies and amazon take care of all the currency conversions. I know Australia politicians try to squeeze you by the balls when it comes to the censorship of video games, but I would expect normal online commerce to be no problem.

Then, shop for US or Euro deals, in addition to your local deals...
 
I'm just going to live with it. If it breaks it breaks and I send it to MS and get a new one. I know they're a little more expensive here, but since they are region locked I really have no option. Especially since its just for casual entertainment. There are many other stores that would carry them, but I don't have a car and am not missioning around and lugging an Xbox on the bus, I would be such an easy target.

Oh well it works now. I just had a 5 hour game session and no problems so.

Are you just scared to go in the store and return it? You claim it would be a hassle you're not willing to deal with, yet in an earlier post, you said you went through a huge hassle shopping around for the right cables.
 
Playing on my refurbished 360 after my orig RROD'd. I was more antsy about the turn around time and seemed to have gotten my original back - no worries, slapped it back in on the shelf and got to playing again.

OP, I'd just play and enjoy the crap out of it - you can always jump up to a Jasper when they start coming out en masse.

In any case summer has hit, and I live a minute walk to the beach so I don't think it's going to get much play

Missioning around to return things? Um, you just go to the store you bought it from. Unless you're confused about what store you bought it from and you have to drive around searching for it?
