Bought a car this past week ... 2011 Audi S4

Picked up a CPO 2011 Audi S4 a few days ago. Traded in my 2006 Mazdaspeed6.

Ibis White
27k miles
Premium Plus, Auto (DSG), Navigation, Black Leather/Alcantara interior, Bang and Olufsen speakers and the Sport Differential Package (the one thing that was mandatory in my search)

3.0L V6, 333HP, 325 ft/lb and AWD

Pics! The first two pics are just from the dealer, the second two are from my cell phone today. I'm kicking myself for not bringing a better camera on my drive today (although, that would just highlight just how dirty it's gotten the past couple days 🙂 ).

nice car, would buy something similar if I had enough money to make having a powerful car a priority. I've been in a A4 and it feels almost too big for me already, I'm used to small cars, so that's really the upper limit for me if I was hunting for sporty vehicles.

Nice. RS or go home 😉

Fixed!

Hahaha, j/k.

I agree though, the S4/S5 are really nice driving cars with a fair amount of power. Terrific cruisers with great interiors. They're not as sporty as the M3, but not everyone is 100% focused only on performance aspects.

I see the S4 as more of a 335i xDrive (which was the other car I was interested in) competitor than an M3. The RS4 is more M3 level. It's too bad that Audi hasn't offered the RS4 here in the states since 2008.

Agreed. I think I trust Audi more with AWD than BMW as well. Though I personally prefer the 335i, if you need AWD I think I'd lean towards the S4 too. Here in TX AWD is pretty much wasted, but if you're driving in an area that needs it it pays off.

I wonder why Audi pulled back on the RS models here. Kind of a shame.

I've always found it odd that the S models are not equivalent to the M models.

Have to step up to the RS line for that.

S4/S5 is a direct competitor for the BMW 335 cars. I suppose that's why I see so many S-cars on the road.

Nice car!

Are you sure your not thinking of the S-line of the regular A models? They really don't sell a whole lot of S models each year.

Anyway I have an s4 (special order) i'm taking delivery on this week if the port releases it finally.

The s4 is an odd car in that it kind of falls in between the 335xi and M series in terms of performance. It doesn't really have a true competitor at least with the current generation.

IF I could go RWD I would do the Beamer. Can't do I'm with Audi as BMW really doesn't do AWD like they do RWD when it comes to performance.

awesome, I am sad it is an auto!

Nothing wrong with the DSG. Actually faster then the manual.

I know, I know. I was hoping to find a manual, but it's very hard to find a CPO S4 with a manual. Doing a quick search on the Audi CPO site, there are a total of 23 CPO S4's available in the US right now with a manual transmission. I'm not sure how many of those had the Sport Diff (which was the must-have option I was looking for). And of those 23, only a few are within reasonable driving distance to me.

I didn't mind the auto in the S4 to be honest. It's a dual-clutch, and the flappy paddles does give some control when I want it. It was difficult giving up that third pedal, but you just don't have a choice if you are looking for a used car like it (and i'm not crazy about dumping $55k+ for a new one).

I also went to several BMW dealerships looking for a CPO 335i xDrive, Sport (or M-Sport) package with a manual (necessity since I didn't like the BMW auto) ... and all said they were incredibly rare. I initially found one in Boston, but it sold almost immediately.

Out of curiosity was the price really that much cheaper on the CPO? I generally found most with less then 15K miles previously but it seemed like they were all high 40's. At that point I didn't mind paying the 5-7k more for new and perfectly optioned the way I wanted.

just curious because I'm taking delivery on my white S4 this week also and I faced the same decision you had but went the other day.

You are correct in saying the difference in price between a low-mileage CPO versus new isn't that much. The one I bought had 26k miles on it. The difference between a new 2013 S4 (with the same exact options I have) versus what I paid is about $15k.

Obviously, the downside to CPO is that you are at the mercy of the dealers inventory (if you are looking for something specific). In fact, I've got about 5 Audi dealers closer to me than the dealer I eventually bought mine from.

Grats on your new one, you'll love it! (Waiting is the hardest part, huh?) 🙂

GUess I should of widened my range given the difference in price. On the flip side I got what I wanted which was a white car with the red/black interior (seems rare).

As for the waiting well I was fine since I placed order in November but then they called me last Monday to say it should be here in the next 10 days and I Can come in and finalize everything. Now the waiting is killing me lol.

And yes can't wait it really is almost the perfect daily driver in my opinion. Obviously handles great, has luxury feel/features, and it has plenty of power but it is comfortable to cruise in unliek say an M3 which is just plain mean constantly.

Sigh now I want my car more lol. Congrats on purchase it's a beautiful car.

Congrats on the purchase! I have such a love/hate relationship with Audi (owned a 98 A4 Avant, 2006 A6 Avant, and have a 2004 A4 Avant now). They are the perfect New England car, with more comfort than a Subaru. But they seem to screw up something horribly with each generation/model. Oil starvation on the 1.8t, leaky 2.7t motor, 4.2 timing chain problems, all FSI engines getting coated with carbon buildup... you would think they would do a little testing!

I wish they still made (meaning import) wagons as well (other than the A4 Allroad now). I hate the styling of the Q models.

And they could really do away with their horrible MMI, the one on our A6 was so stupid. I would much rather have the simple controls I have on my 2004. But I will still buy Audis! Glutton for punishment I guess.

very nice. The price seems very good. Gives me pause when my gs lease is up in 2 years. I really like the look of the s4, but couldn't afford a new one.

Is it an auto? Or paddle shifter?

DSG. It's a paddle shifter but it will auto-upshift if you push it to far unlike the m3 which would let you bounce off the rev limiter all day.

It's an enjoyable auto to drive. Smoothest transmission I've ever dealt with.

Nothing wrong with the DSG. Actually faster then the manual.

I drove my friend's diesel Golf with a DSG and it felt like an auto. In manual mode it felt awkward. It's not nearly the same experience as a manual transmission. It's an automatic that's more efficient and faster, which means nothing unless you're a race driver.
