Hi all,

I recently upgraded my CPU from 3500+ to 3700+, managed to get rid of my 3500 for what i paid for it... my new 3700+ arrives Thursday from Monarch. My concern is I should of just skipped to a dual core, but at the time speculation was rife about when they would be released, shipping summer seemd to be the consensus and no one could be sure if that meant June, July or August and what availability would be like.

I guess I just want to here you opinion on what I should do, price of the X2 is definately a drawback even though it may be the better of the 2. I will be doing a lot of web app development on this, including Visual Studio, Dreamweaver, Photoshop/Illustrator, Flash and also running local DB servers like MS SQL/MySQL. I'm also a gamer, so I want it to peform well there also.

I guess part of my wants to put my mobo and cpu up for sale, and buy dual core... but then maybe I don't need it... just want some opnions to make me feel good or bad about my purchase.

Thanks

James

If you got your money back from your 3500+, its not a bad deal at all.. You should be happy with your overall purchase..

X2's will be expensive for the next couple of months, no rush to get the x2 immediately... so the SD should hold you over till then!

yeah, you can just sell your 3700 when you want the x2. the 3700 is a very good chip.

You are definitely a good candidate for dual core, but right now the prices are "a bit" high. Waiting for price drops and/or lower clocked and less expensive dual core X2's is not a bad idea, though, if you don't "need" it "right now." :)

From the benchmarks I've seen, the 820 is a better CPU than the 3700+. However, you'd have to spend a lot more to upgrade from 3500+ to 3700+ than to an 820, considering the fact that you'd have to get a new motherboard and RAM.

Good job on getting the 3700+ - it's a monster! I just bought myself a 3700+ too because I didn't want to spend the premium on bleeding edge technology. I love the X2, and its promise, but not its price. Buying the 3700+ now ensures you'll enjoy wonderful performance for a long time and by the time it's not enough you can get an X2 and have plenty of inexpensive dual core options to choose from.

I just reread you post and saw that you want to sell your MOBO too.. The X2 will go into your current board just fine..

Whenever the time comes, sell your San Diego chip and get the X2 with a BIOS update.
