Hey everyone.
Im new to this forum but i frequent all of the other forums here

ANyways I buy a 9500 pro off of ebay in hopes of modding it up to a 9700 pro when I get it. Well i get the card, stick it in my computer and its recognized as a 9700 pro! But now it keeps on crashing and Im getting some artifacts on the computer screen?

What are the programs to remedy this? Im having a hard time figuring out how to flash the bios back to a 9500 pro and then overclock from there. IF anyone can help me on this manner it would be great!

I think you'd have to flash the BIOS to a stock 9500 Pro one.
A 9500 Pro cannot be modded to a 9700 Pro! Only a 9500 can be modded to a 9700 or 9700 Pro (but why not just OC?).

But if you haven't done any BIOS flashing yourself and it comes up as a 9700 Pro, then return it!

Yep, 9500pros are incapable of being modded to a 9700pro.. they need the L shaped memory.

really really weird. Omega drivers say its a 9700 pro. Could it be possible to flash it to a 9700 pro and it wont work?

sounds like someone sold you a bad card, returning it would be the best remedy.

Are you reading any of the posts in your own thread?
Yeah, someone probably attempted to flash the card and got the very problems your having.
I hope you didn't get trolled because Ebay seems to be the easiest way for these bastages to unload their damaged goods.

Actually when you flash a 9500 Pro with a bios than can overclock it will read it as a 9700 Pro. Just because there is really only hex values the bios that need to change to allow overclocking. And those values changed the name of the card to 9700 Pro. It was the same for the regular 9700 np's that were locked too. If you went in and edited the bios it would be the hex values to change the name to 9700 pro.

Any ways I don't think that the bios would cause corruption unless it was the wrong bios or something. which could be true as there were alot of bios's out there depending on manufacturer and speed of ram on the card aswell. Either way if the flash went bad or it is some other problem IE card just dying or heat ect. It sounds like you got ripped off.

Also Check out http://www.rage3d.com there is a huge thread stickied in the tweaking/Ocing forum about 9500 pro's and how to flash the bios' along with links for original bios' and others to match the ram, manufacturer, etc..

Yea I emailed him asking him if i could return it. He sent me an email right after i bought it saying that he is interested in his customers 100% satisfaction, so i should be able to return it to him.

I will let you guys know what happens. And thanks for the help!

Oh and keysplayr2003, i guess i didnt write that post very well.

All of you were saying its impossible to flash a 9500 pro to a 9700 pro. What i was asking was could he of flashed it to a 9700 pro even though its not supposed to work?

Yes, he could have. Spend a bit of time googling, and see if you can flash it to a stock 9500 Pro BIOS. If it was flashed with a bad one or wrong one already, that could fix it right up--it's worth a shot!

9500pro shows up as a 9500pro/9700 in the drivers.....but not a 9700pro, is shows as a 9700 because the 9500pro has the same R300 core we allknow n love, and it has the same clock speeds, but a 9700pro it certainly is not

sounds like some guy has been reading bout 9500 non pros being able to be turned to a 9700pro.......an with his idiocy and lack of knowledge tried his hand at converting the 9500pro, then its busted up, so he sells it on ebay,

try a stock 9500pro bios first, think from rage3d ? not sure, make sure u get the bios that goes with your rated ram speed,

if this doesnt work......a return is in order

this is why i will never buy off ebay

Yea he's correct, my 9500 PRO flashed with the warp BIOS is identified as a 9700 pro in almost everything except for a few games. That doesnt make it a 9700 pro though, it still keeps its 128 bit memory path.

Anyways, a flashed 9500 pro cant be modded to a 9700, flashing it only allows you to OC it. And if you have artifacts then that means you have either :

A bad card
or
Your card was flashed with the memory/core speed set to high for it [default should be 275/275 mhz].
