Bottlenecking connundrum. What to upgrade?

I currently have:

p6t socket 1366 motherboard with I7 920 (c stepping)

and 3 X MSI GTX 580 lightning extremes

I realize this is a mismatch in terms of GPU and CPU power. SO... my choice is either to upgrade to a 970 and overclock it....... Try to overlcock this (But I am worried about case temperatures from the 3 cards) OR

with the 550 price of a 970 I could get a socket 1155 motherboard AND cpu just about. But are there any 1155 motherboards as good as mine for triple SLI? Mine says it will do X16 X16 and x8 in triple SLI.

1155 can only do x8/x8 for SLI/Crossfire. X58 is markedly superior in that aspect. Just OC your 920, they should OC pretty well.

well I was stupid.. i ordered an i7 970. apparently it sucks at overclocking though . I liked that it was 32 nm instead of 45... but I think 6 cores versus 4 cores makes no different for gaming. Just more stress on the power supply.

I was just going to overclock my 920 as you said but I saw it's idle temperaturse were in the high 40's and I changed my mind. Oh welllllll. I'll try to overclock the 970 to 3.8 or 4.0 and I will be good. I should have waited for 2011 though
