Bottleneck

I have a broadband cable and a 4-node SMC Barricade router. What's been so frustrating with the setup is the bottleneck issue. The router gets jammed even when I download pdf files sometimes, which makes downloading files of a considerable size like multimedia formats practically impossible. Is this something that can be improved by switching to a different router? Also, can DSL be better than cable in that regard? Feedbacks would be appreciated very much.

Never had any such problems with my linksys routers. I'm on my second now. That problem sounds like a bug though so maybe look for a firmware upgrade from the manufaturer?

My SMC router has no problems at all. Routers can handle connections far faster than the internet connection so I don't know why it would matter. You could try plugging a computer directly into the cable modem and seeing if the issues still persist. Could be a software issue though.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Dragonbate. I just upgraded the firmware, and will see if the problem still persists. If not, I might as well get a LINKSYS wrt54g. I heard good things about that model.

I did try this, and yes, the problem went away. So, do you think it?s probably the router, too?
